looks alot nicer but still put off by it being a 250, would be alot better if it was a 400 though..... https://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/2013-kawasaki-ninja-250r-revealed/21128.html

250 is their biggest selling capacity around the world, it's only the Brits who somehow think a 250 is underpowered. Sure, a 250 won't beat a bigger bike or a supercar but they'll out do many sports cars and almost all hot hatches. I still think they're more fun than bigger bikes - revving the nuts off something and still keeping your license is where it's at!

400 is already available in Canada and NZ, and appear to be slated for the US in 2013 - cant imagine it'll be too long til it's over here too.

According to the reviews it has a top speed of 110mph. Add that to a pretty decent fuel economy (around 50mph), I can see these things starting to sell over here a lot more in todays climate. I've been looking at downsizing from my tractor to a 600 because of the price of fuel. I would even consider the little 250 if the price was right.

Bit confused why they are releasing 33hp models still..

I estimate they'll sell very few of these next year due to law change.

Come on manufacturers, IL4 high revving 250/400s Laughing

Then remove the spastic plastic, don't call it a ninja, call it the given model EX250...

It certainly is a pretty thing, and 250 is globally popular as an entry level bike.

But in the UK/EU?

When the new one is introduced, newly qualified riders who have a license to ride it will have obtained that on a 500 or larger bike, and will be licensed to ride 35kW machines.

The current 250 is £300 less than an undiscounted SV650, and the SV650 is always discounted, and typically available with a free restrictor (25kW now, 35kW next year). It's £700 less than an NC700S and that's natively at the 35kW limit, and has ABS as standard.

Fuel economy? You'd have to beat the 88mpg claimed by the more powerful NC700S (or G650GS) when ridden at the same speeds.

Insurance costs are likely to be higher. Heck, running costs too, given the likely more frequent service intervals and the plastics to take off.

It's not exactly a featherweight either. I'd prefer more for 172kg.

Now, the promised 400cc "Ninja" might be interesting, but if it's just a down-sleeved ER-6f, then it'll cost a much as one to make, and why wouldn't you just buy the ER-6f?

If manufacturers are going to offer less bike, they're really going to want to offer it for less money.

Interesting to compare the prices listed around the world.

Here, the 'Ninja' 250 has a list price of £4649, which includes VAT, etc, but not 'government charges' (presumably first reg fee of £55 + £36 VED), so £4740 total.
In NZ, the same bike has a list price of NZ$8795, or ~£4400.
In Canada, they only sell the carbed version, but at a list price of C$5000, which is ~£3200.
In the US, they again only sell the carbed version, at a list price of $4200, or ~£2650.

Presumably in the US & Canada you have to add on sales taxes, government fees, etc, but even if taxes/charges of 25% were imposed, the price differential seems enormous. Not sure how much the FI system costs compared to carbs, but I doubt that can account for all of the difference.

Along with the impending licencing stuff Roger has mentioned, it's just too expensive here. If they were to knock a grand off the price, it might sell a bit better.

Has anyone seen one of these on the road yet?

By this (very crude) method, doesn't seem like they are selling hordes at the price point they have chosen.

If you haven't ridden a 250cc class machine in anger it may be hard to understand the appeal. A lot faster in practice than a 125, hard to get into trouble on, and you are often pushing the bike to its limit. Not scary or intimidating in the least. But overtakes on the open road aren't much fun.

Shouldn't weigh more than 160 though; that's about what my scooter weighs. Around town, on a conventional bike with high centre of gravity, I'd prefer even less.

Yes bike itself looks cooler, but apparently 2012 model has better wind protection and beginner friendly position.

I've only seen one and it was being ridden by a low IQ chav who was screaming at an old lady to 'fucking hurry up' as she walked over a pelican crossing.

Ninja, innit?

I hope it doesn't look to plasticy... this maybe be the bike for me... simple progressive steps up the cc ladder may be cheap when talking about insurance.

Doubt it, it has an engine. Definitely not the bike for you.

My Ninja 250 was the most expensive bike to insure that I've owned.
Around 50% more and I'm a fair bit older than you.

If they made anything like the old CB-1 these days, I'd go out now and buy one brand new. I like the idea of a 250 IL4 for fuel economy purposes but I just think they'll likely be a very boring ride.

The new Suzuki Inazuma 250 looks a good alternative - list price of £3250 which I suppose these days is more 125cc money.
They claim 88mpg as well...
Don't know how it compares power wise but its a 2-cylinder liquid cooled bike fuel injected exactly as the Ninja and probably a brand new engine design?

https://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/promo/000414/

It doesn't have the sports bike pretensions of the Ninja but probably doesn't need them...
I agree 4,600 for the Kawasaki seems steep and 172kg isn't far off a GPZ500's weight!
