the flat above us has an overflow pipe that lets water out into our back yard.

its been gushing with water for the last hour or more.

who's the best people to call about it?

not getting a responce from the flat in question about it and its splashing water all over my bike and windows.

i cant move the bike as the back yard is like 2mx4m and its as far away from it as possible. and while it wont do it any harm its annoying.

water is also seeping in from under the back door into the kitchen.

lol its tempting to to shove a cork in it but then the water wouldnt be escaping the flat and would cause flood damage to our flat.

So you have posted a thread on BCF because you find something annoying....

Can you contact the owner/landlord of that flat?

the problem is from the back door theres 5 steps up to the yard, and the pipe is next to those steps, and my dog gets soaked everytime she goes past it.

i cant contact the owner/landlord. and the building manager isnt taking calls.

slightly concerned as you would think running water of this magnitude the tennants up there would be aware of it.

also note i said water is getting in under the back door because of it so my kitchen is getting wet because someone didnt turn the tap off

its a 1" pipe, rather narrow lol.

would it be worth a call to 112 police non emergency?

i mean if the silly cow up there has fallen asleep in the bath or something (although the water is cold) then there could be something wrong.

at the least they might get a better responce from the door?

So whoever is upstairs is flooding the place
and you think the best action to take is to post on a internet forum?
Rolling Eyes

Get the landlord round to access the flat, if water is pissing out from the overflow. Guess what?
Water is OVERFLOWING!
You'll have a nice upstair swimming pool to start with, then damp/leaky roof if not worse.
Get access and shut it off, or at least find a stopcock
Neutral

First try one last time to wake up / resurrect your retarded neighbour upstairs. Beat the shit out of the door bell and Spam the doorbell.
No joy
112 or find the stopcock and kill the water for the entire property
ASAP.
If your calling 112 mention

Water + Electrics don't play well & that you cannot get a reply from the tenant.
Do they have a car? Can you be sure they are not in?

pains me to say it, but good call, should have done it before posting on here really as it could be someone has left a tap running, or someone has died in the tub.

yeah i didnt want to make any rash decisions and as its friday "kick out time" they could have been better used else where.

anyway they've been round and its stopped but it wasnt flat 3 that was the problem. they dont know who as it stopped while they was checking on flat 3 tennants.

if i had massive reason to think they was in trouble i would have called 999 immediately but was 50/50 so didnt see the need to make haste.

i like it when we get along.

For future reference,

If you've got a hosepipe, attach that to the overflow and use the hosepipe to direct the flow elsewhere. If it's gushing out then I suspect the header tank may be overflowing... in which case, prepare for lots more water.

If the overflow is at room level then it is probably the float valve in the toilet overfilling. The bath overflow goes into the main drainage with all the other waste water as most people don't need an external overflow to realise their bath is overflowing.
If it's from roof level then it will be from the cold water tank or heating header tank.

Why not put a note through their door to let them know its overflowing as unless they normally spy on you in your yard they will have know idea.

I was working on a house once and the overflow was running but the tenants thought it was rain water from the guttering so had bought a water butt to catch it Laughing cool story Cool

How about just redesigning the flat so the overflow makes an attractive water feature ? Should be much easier than any other potential solution.
