Rider and passenger sliding beneath a truck and not coming out on the other side Sick , it was back home in indonesia and it looked like that the two of them were uni-students. The truck was in the left lane turning right with the bike trying to turn left from the right side - eye contact or mirror use never established - so tragically, bike was caught in the wheels.

Diesel spills are always very nasty and i've had an off cos of one too.

Mine was a head on crash into a combine harvester down a country lane. Was stuck under the axle till help arrived and got carted off to hospital. Wink

Worst accident was my best friend a few weeks ago. Head on into a car and died instantly. I don't think I'll ever get over it. Sad Perhaps it's not a thing to ever get over completely, as it will always act as a reminder we are not invincible.

Worst i know of was a guy round here on an Rs125 titting about, second day of owning it, went over a blind summit at a ton (thats my take on it anyway), car pulled out. He flipped it and slid under the wheel of the car at about 60 odd. Instant helmet mush. Sick

But dont let it put you off mate. Tis all grand. You walk away from most of em. I went sorta through a tree on one wheel at 40 (and through a fence too) and walked out of that fine.

I had a nasty one, drove into the back of a parked car, can't
remember what actually happened but I did write off the bike
and broke both wrists. ( till this day I have no memory of the
crash, only know what the cops told me )

That crash was back in 1985 before I started courier work.

The most recent accident was about 4 years ago, a van did a
U turn knocking me off, bike, hah not a scratch, me, soft tissue
damage left shoulder. (twas back on the road 7 days later)

XJ900F, too fast, riding like a prat on roads I didn't know, I came to a tight s-bend, a left then right. Found cowshit, mud and diesel across the road from a farm entrance, as I was banked over to the left the front started to go from under me, so I kicked down with my left foot, bringing the bike back upright. Still going too fast and now in completely the wrong line, I tried to scrub off some speed but lost the front again (not sure I ever completely regained it), so down the bike went, with my left leg under it.

My left foot provided a soft cushion for the engine casing as it slammed into the kerb, where me and the bike was then flipped back up with me landing first and the bike second, on top of me. Other than my foot resembling a crunchy rubber bag of giblets, I got off with bruising.

Typical that as it was a bloody cold day, I had chosen to wear some women's tights under my jeans, as I do when I go fishing. I should have known that would guarantee a trip to the hospital Smile

Still hurts changing gear, so I favour British bikes now Smile

Moral? Don't ride beyond your capabilities to impress or fit in, and although 100% waterproof, Derri boots offer no protection whatsoever. Oh, and wearing tights mean you'll have to go to hospital Smile

worst l,ve seen was a mate hitting a rounderbout at 90mph head-on riding his mito, shattered the front wheel and plowed into a bush, only damage to the bike was the wheel and a few scratchs and he was fine.

worst l,ve had when l was 16 was going around a left hand bend at 40mph in heavy rain on my moped, not seeing the vovlo in front waiting to turn right at a juction. crash the bike head-on into his boot caving in the hole front of the bike destroying the radiator, luckily no damage to the volvo or me

Woke up lying on the road, having broken both ends of my radius and mashed my helmet in July. I don't really know what happened though, I don't remember a thing about it, just what I've been able to piece together afterwards. Screw in my wrist, pot for 5 weeks, back on the bike a week after that. Incidentally, I'm now officially cured, having been discharged from both the orthapaedics and the physio. Only lost about 20 degrees supernation... Rolling Eyes

My brother got pulled out on by a flatbed transit, he went into the side of it. He got his right thigh sliced open from 3-4 inches above his knee all the way to about a inch from his groin. Lots of staples. Almost riding again 3 months later though.

Few nasties.

One guy I didn't really know but a lot of my mates did. Riding in the highlands and 'making progress'. Rode round a corner to find a French tourist in a camper van overtaking an artic. Didn't stand a chance, the folks that were there reckon they hit head-on at a combined 140mph minimum.

Another mate lost control of his bike on a cold, frosty night and hit a steamroller (a proper, old-fashioned one, it was a long time ago) head-on at about 70mph. When he woke up it was nearly summer and someone had drilled a hole in his skull. He is still here to tell the tale.

My worst one is tame by comparison. I lost control of my motorcycle-sidecar (due to a mechanical failure) which zigged when I wanted to zag and flipped me over the bars (on hitting a strainer post) to land in a gorse bush 20 ft down a ravine. Left wrist smashed to bits, hospital three days and six months before I could use the hand something close to normal. It still isn't right and never will be. All I can say is thank goodness for back armour, it may look thin but it soaks up one hell of an impact!

Touch wood I havn't had an accident but I've had a few near misses. Most notable was going down some country lanes about 50-60 and the sun got in my eyes and I didn't see a bend. Before I realised I was heading for someones pillar on a gravel driveway. I thought "If I don't crash into the pillar I'll hit the driveway". Thankfully I stopped about a metre clear of the pillar but it scared the crap out of me and I turned and went straight home (about 30!).

Well, I've also broken my leg in a playground, and had a brain haemorrhage - both a lot worse than my bike accident.

If you try hard enough, you can find no end of reasons not to do anything. Focus on the positive side of bike ownership, and reinforce it with maybe some advanced training. Don't give your parents the opportunity nor ammunition to go on a bike downer.

The first response i get from family and friends when i talk about getting a bike is usually "You're going to kill yourself", followed by "Whats wrong with getting a car?"

Everyone i know is car orientated, and cant understand why someone would want a bike, and automatically assume its a bad thing because of all the misconceptions they have.

Its quite depressing really Embarassed , but im not going to let my self be put off by what everyone else says.

My worst accident that I was involved in, was in a car, see this thread. I was very lucky, coming out with few physical injurys. Others were not so.

On a motorbike, I've fallen off the back, midwheelie at around 60mph. Something best avoided... and easily avoided by not getting over confident in doing high fastish wheelies Smile.

I just had my first accident so it's my worst. It was either hit one car or two but I managed to doge both with some sexy skills and hit the curb Laughing Thumbs Down . Anyway I got up with a bleeding knee I couldn't walk for 2days but the first day was like hell. Other than my left knee my right hip also got injured since it's the one that got hit by the curb. After four days my left knee still hurts but I'll be fine in a few days.

The 9 fingered bloke who made special mention of breaking 4 bones in his left hand and buggering up his right wrist at the bike shop today didn't exactly inspire confidence into my parents - but I did get the gloves and draggin's I wanted Very Happy

I've only binned my bike once and that was on a trackday. No biggie.

Friend of mine up north messed himself up rather well when he took a corner too fast, ran wide and went straight into a prongy combine harvester kinda thing. Though the doctors reckoned the only reason that he didn't die was that he'd put loads of weight on and as a consequence his leathers were so tight that they kinda kept things in place. 6 months in hospital but he's okay now.

Nice cheerful thread. Neutral

well, i think i have just dodged an accident to be honest. thursday i sliced my thumb (top of the first knuckle) to the bone and could see bone and tendons, just missed the tendons but was weird seeing it all moving inside when i moved me thumb, now i reckon this accident happened to stop me riding the bike for a reason, now i can't ride while it heals and maybe if i didn't have the accident summit could of happened to me this week, but thats just my weird way of thinking/wondering Rolling Eyes

Ive only seen one crash. Someone on a bandit i think it was, dropped down too many gears, locked the back end up and went sliding, he was doing about 60. Got up walked over to the bike, which was fooked, exhaust snapped, everything on one side needed replacing.

Im not on the road yet, so ive not had a crash. Touchwood

My only spills have been on my Derbi Senda. First one within a week of owning it when i flipped it while showing my mum how quickly i had learnt new tricks. Rolling Eyes Then i ended up surfing it when the ice came. Cool Never had any physical pain inflicted on myself by riding my bike.

Saw the results of lad from my school hugging a concrete post at 60mph on the local roundabout. Thought he could handle a full power R6 at 17 after a year on a RS50 and a few weeks on a RS250....

A few broken ribs and one kidney removed and he's moved onto cars now.

Another "wanna-be boy racer, but too poor, so i'll have a RS125" had a really funny spill when he tried to do a stopie in my mates drive, but miss-timed it and went straight into the up&over garage door... Mr. Green

Never nice to see an accident, but it happens. Some can be funny, like when you just see a rear end sticking out of a hedge or something.

Hedges can do some damage to though. One of the lads crashed when we were on a run to Arran.

The fuel pump on his Ninja cut out then back in again midway round a corner at 90mph. Instant highside into a hedge. Apparently him and the bike disappeared into the hedge and were both spat out some distance further down the road. He was pretty much uninjured, the bike had both USD forks sheared off level with the bottom yoke. Now I am no engineer, but that takes some force. We had a laugh about the comedy appearance of the crash round the campfire later but it is a bloody good job he didn't hit whatever the bike did.

Worst I had was when i set off on a scooter with the bars not quite straight, bike leaned over sharply, i countersteered it up and over, as soon as I passed vertical, I went flying into the air, landed on my leg in an akward position, narrowly got missed by the scooter - this was right outside my house too.

Damage to the scooter - i'm not bothered it wasn't mine...
Damage to me - cuts and bruises + 2 fractured bones in foot - I hobbled on continuing to work my shift for about an hour before the boss sent me home - it was a while before i could walk properly again - still twinges now Confused .

Oh well, could've been worse.

I've dropped my bike on my leg but that's about it.

I just read the thread that G provided the link for. All I can say is that I didn't know what to feel or think, I was sad because it happened and the outlook was grim for a while, but I was happy when you guys made progress.... Thumbs Up
