Hi all,

I had my DAS course last week and failed at the last minute of the Mod 2 for staying in the right hand lane of a dual carriageway too long. Crappy reason to fail someone, but I understand the importance of the error.

Anyway, looks like it will cost me £168 to retake the test, including the bike rental and another hour's worth of tuition.

I was wondering if there was a cheaper way of renting a bike and taking the Mod 2 without going through a school?

Where do you live? Maybe you could rent a bike from someone on the forum?

Unless you have a friend who'll let you borrow a bike, and have insurance for it then it's going to cost.

What size bike are you testing on? If it's a 125 then fine, you can ride to the test centre yourself but if it's not, you need to have an instructor with you which will cost money..

It was a CBF600 that I did my DAS training on and tests the first time. I live around Camberley, Surrey for the moment. I actually reside abroad but visiting here over Christmas and New Year.

I'm also not sure if the new laws affect me next year since I only have a retest option for January 5th - i'm 27.

Looks like it won't be a problem as i'm over 24 and changes come into effect from the 19th January.

CBF600 will mean you must be in radio contact with a qualified instructor while riding about. So getting to the test centre would be your first issue, then showing valid insurance and MOT to the examiner. Essentially that's what you're paying for when going via the training school. You might find that it actually works out a bit more expensive to not go via the school. It's certainly going to be added hassle.

If you're 27 then the new laws don't affect you. Do you have a UK license? AFAIK you need to have a UK address for that.

Van, trailer, pillion, or don't get caught. If you have insurance, then riding a Hayabusa on a provisional is exactly as illegal as riding a C90 with a slightly under-sized L plate.

Nope, you just tick a box for those.

Wow, thanks for the responses and offers. Since i'll be getting a CBR F-Sport in the spring I best complete the test on a 'full' powered bike as I believe I would need to. I'll be riding it across to Norway to use there since i'm not paying three times as much for the same bike in Scandinavia. As good an excuse for a road trip as any.

I have a UK license/parent's address and would have passed my mod 2 if it wasn't for that silly ass mistake. Guess I should put it down to more experience and pay the £168 to go again.

Thanks again for the responses.

P.S. The radios the test centers use are crap compared to the instructor's - always second guessing what they are saying. The guy was a tool as well.
