2009 Yamaha FZ6 - Autotrader

Bit of a 'help me buy my first bike' type thread. I am somewhat impulsive and tend to buy expensive things without stepping back and thinking twice, but I'm going to look at some bikes this week and have seen this at a dealer nearby. Trouble is, I'll almost certainly buy it if I see it.

Is is worth the asking price (or after a good haggle)? It's almost Christmas, so I can't imagine many people have been laying down a couple of grand on bikes so maybe business is slow and I can swoop in with an offer close to 3k? Or is my theory of bike sales completely wrong?

It's my first bike and I'm going to be all exciting at the shiny bikes and stuff so help me to not get blinkered please!

I'm not too up on current fazer pricing but it looks like a decent enough bike for the price (from a stealer anyway...).

Any particular reason your going through a dealer? You'd probably save yourself a wad of cash going private for an equivalent bike.

It looks like your right near me (I'm in leighton buzzard, just down the road from PT woburn), if you want a hand looking at anything or a second pair of eyes feel free to drop me a PM and I'll happily come over.

Oh, and yeah it is a buyers market in winter because they're desperate for business. You could probably get some money off it and some free gear with it.

Yeah, I'm in Luton actually. I've just been looking on autotrader and that's what has come up locally. My brother in law is the bike man, but he's been very busy lately and probably hasn't got time to come looking at private sales with me, but with the 3 month warranty from the stealer, figured with my lack of in depth knowledge about bikes I'd be a bit safer from getting sold a dud.

I'm actually really flexible on bikes and cost. Anything that is 3-4k and a good first bike, so something a bit more upright and 600cc is all it really needs to be. A bit of fairing would be nice but not essential so that's why the fazer took my fancy.

Pure Triumph Woburn. I just had a nose through their used bikes and saw they still have my old Street Triple R for sale. They aren't going to make much on that as they gave me £5300 trade in and had to service it and fit a new rear tyre. Someone will get a good deal there. It's also got a rad guard but they forgot about that, Laughing

I have to say for a dealer they have been pretty good to me though Thumbs Up

It looks a reasonable price but haggle hard nonetheless, and offer to take it before the end of the year so they can have it for this year's figures.

Have you compared it with bikes a bit further afield? Don't just pick the one nearest to you if there are other better value ones out there.

This. If you must get an FZ6 (don't, get a Hornet instead) then get one much, much cheaper as Andy suggests.

Or, if you can afford to spend that asking price, get a Street Triple.

I was looking for a Hornet but found it would cost me around 500 quid more for the age/mileage I wanted. Oh, and the Street Triple was at 5.9k for some reason on the forecourt. As nice as it is, for a first bike it's a bit much (bike and money) for me right now. Maybe next year!

I've seen a few of these for a little cheaper - around the £3200 mark, with around 4k miles on.

See if you can get some money knocked off as said above, or take your dollar else where. Thumbs Up

I bought it actually, did get a bit off, but not 600 quid like the person in that other Fazer thread did! Problem is, I'm shit at haggling. The sellers see me coming, know I want that bike and have got the money! Even if he didn't knock a penny off it I probably would have bought it.

I don't have the time or patience to be looking at bikes for weeks waiting for the right deal.

Only rode it for half an hour this evening, but the handling feels very nice and the bike is very responsive over what I have ridden before. Yet to really give it some beans but I'm sure it will be more than enough for me at the moment.

Rode it back in the dark so was taking it cautiously but if it's dry tomorrow I will go for a little play. Might set up the GoPro too! No showing off though...

If you like it who cares. I bought a new (to me) bike a few months back. Looking around now if I'd waited a few months I'd have probably been able to get the same bike cheaper but I went to see it wanted it so I bought it. Do I regret it? Of course not.

I think that is the case with literally anything you purchase. Best thing to do is buy it and stop looking at how much they are and enjoy what you've got!

That's a fairly reasonable price from a dealer for that bike.

But I wouldn't have spent more than £2600 on it because I know I could have got one else where for less than that.

As long as you are happy with the bike, that's the main thing. Enjoy!

I've pretty much done the same as you.....

Just bought a FZS1000, and probably paid a little more than I needed to, just because I wanted THAT bike. It was clean for it's age and represented good value to me.

These Fazers generally seem to have good reviews too.

Hope you enjoy it! Thumbs Up
