Question time. You have 3500 in the bank and want to buy either a brand new cbr125 for 3000 in my local Honda dealer OR the XL125V 6 months old with 2k on the clock for around 3500 mark.

The XL has more power then the CBR but weighs more so the most you're looking at is 65 on the straight I am lead to believe by reviews where the CBR can pull 70/75.

Tricky one.

You are the king of touring on a 125 .

So if you want to spend a lot more cash go for the cbr.
You know what you`re doing on the Trials type bike (xl 125), you`ve done it before.

Having a different and new style of bike (cbr) is an expensive business!
What one would you think would make a better 125 tourer?
You are only allowed a new bike if you are going to do some more 125 tours and come on here with a write up Smile

Any reason why a 125?

Personally I would spend however much it will cost to do your full licence ( if you don't have one already) and then buy a bigger bike that you don't have to worry about whether it does 60 or 70 mph.

Well mate I traded my XR (with a bunch of cash) for a 2011 DR125SM a while back with the plan to do even more touring thinking a newer bike would give me the push needed to get back on the road and clock up some miles. Boy was I wrong! The DR is so boring dull! Worst thing I ever did was trade my XR!

Passed my test on my XR and clocked up over 20k on it. It was still running strong when I sold it. But yes I am going to tour to lands end this year I promise you Smile

I'm 90% sure I am going to get the XL as it seems to be the best 125 on the market and I will have to get the side boxes for my tours Smile

I am still impressed with the new shape CBR!

Photos of tours with write ups will be uploaded Smile

Don't want a bigger bike, I love 125s as they are completely perfect for what I want out of a bike Smile

Fair play to you. Have you tried anything bigger though? A lot think the same way till they do. Myself included.

It's so good being able to get passed a lorry or something when out on an A Road at national speed limit.

Iv had fastish bikes like my NSR which was a full powered import. I'm never in a rush and people seem to give you a different kind of respect when youre touring on a 125!

I'm very happy being a Sunday driver of a biker lol

That's lovely to see!

I just got done riding to Greece and back over 3 weeks on a 2012 Honda CBF 125, so I can definitely relate! Looking at the Varadero myself, I've got a 650gs but I just adore the 125's I really do.

Definitely!

What are you doing next year? I want to ride the 125 I'm going to be customizing this winter around Europe and maybe even further, and no one wants to tour on a 125!

I'd buy an old air-cooled two-smoke; KH125 for preference, but GP100, H100 or the like.... save £3K towards the tours, while adding an element of 'Adventure'..... you know the joy of dicovery, venturing into mystery, the element of the unknown..... especially if you are riding down a dark road! But the joy of not knowing......
- whether you'll make it where you hope!
- what new idicocyncracies the bike will develop today
- whether it will stop when you pull on the brakes!
- whether you can find out why the engine was reving its nuts off irrespective of what you did with the throttle...... causing you to haulo on the brakes in the first place!
You know, stuff like this that make a journey 'exiting'! Shocked

Veradaro is just? Well, its made for the job, really, isn't it?

Sterling Moss asked about racing Le-Mans and the exitement of doing 200mph down the mulsane straight once quipped, its not the speed on the straight thats exiting, but the corner at the end.... and 60mph round a 60mph corner isn;t really exiting, but 31mph round a 30mph corner..... THAT'S exiting!

Where's the challenge or satisfaction doing high miles on a bike designed to do high miles?

We know some-one who did that, don't we ROGER!

Just DONT err.... use the helpful 'side stand under the seat' mod!

I do think, though, that they ought to bring back the Mauds Trophey and ask Lexmoto to have a crack at winning one sponsoring a couple of unemployed idiots to try riding a pair of Vixens BACK to Behjing!

Real test of the bikes worth? I nominate Smiler and Alpha for the job Shocked
