Cue lots of heated arguments for and against just about every helmet camera there is...

I've bought a POV 1.5 through fleabay - paid £200 for it, which was twice as much as I actually wanted to, but these are excellent cameras - and they are going at fairly decent prices now only because they've been superceded by the HD version.

Keep your eye out for one!

Vivitar from Tesco for about £30. See how you get on and then if you upgrade use it as a second position for the bike.

I was in Tesco extra on Saturday and they were on the shelf. Two colours, black and yellow.

Edit: I just looked online and they're not there. Maybe in-store only.

I imported a Contour Roam from US, it's £150 in UK, $150 US so worked out pretty cheap.

I can't watch the clip.
There are far too many arseholes using bikes in Lahndahn. The way they behave is part of the reason the EU is trying to outlaw biking (And hiking everyone's insurance premiums up).
There is no need to ride like that.

Actually, 90% of the time I'm the guy sitting in traffic watching everyone else squeeze past me. I've tried riding 'nice', you get nowhere fast.

For the record (and I'm aware it only means so much in the real world) I passed my test with 0 minors on both Mod 1 and Mod 2.

It's also worth pointing out I ride the same route every single day, and know every pothole, every light timing and every point in which an accident could happen. I regularly ride past smashed up scooters and bikes and guys on spinal boards who have been caught out at those points.

If we want to debate specific bits of the video - and while I'm defensive of the above points, I do welcome constructive advice, thoughts and tips - let's do it over PM and not derail this thread.

I do still feel there are tooooo many arseholes using bikes in London though. Smile I hate biking there but I can and do make progress without putting my life at risk.

This does show another use for helmet cams, though - watching yourself ride in replay and learning from it.

The wide angle actually makes some of the gaps look far narrower than they really are, but I clearly don't do enough lifesavers in that clip and, since I recorded and watched it back in February, I've really stepped up my game in terms of observations.

I thought you were fairly smooth and efficient, and relatively safe - the only problem I have is missing the right hand mirror, in the same situation I'd spend more time doing shoulder checks and lifesavers and risk having something happen in front of me when I wasn't looking ahead.

The guy in front of you on the 1200GS dragging his feet on the ground when he had to filter slowly, that guy is an accident waiting to happen.

My heart sings with joy when riding in London, particularly on a medium capacity scooter, hence my choice of ride there. Never fails to entertain! If you keep your observations up and have the city experience to predict the usual situations, the risk is fairly low. Most especially watch gaps in the traffic, not just those wide enough for cars, but pedestrians and cyclists will come flying through narrow ones too. Keep your safety bubble up and nothing too exciting really happens.

Aye But.... I ride in the city and every day see 'almost mashed' or 'Lucky/Stupid bastart' incidents every few minutes.
It is a joy to slice through traffic confident in the knowledge that you can make it there and back with ner a peep or blink of main one's beam. Cool
It worries me that idiots put them self at so much risk just to make progress. I don't know if they are too dumb or they think they do no harm.

All the non-solo bike accidents I've seen in the city have been from lack of visibility due to other traffic, usually a queue of stationary or slow-moving traffic. Typical situation is overtaking on the nearside lane (may be bus lane, or go straight lane when right lane is turn right), and a vehicle turns through a gap in the traffic. Bike expects right of way, but it's violated rather abruptly.

I don't see near misses too often. What I do see is people rushing past gaps, or not seeing far enough down the road and over-optimistically trying an overtake, only to have to brake because of a right-turning car or vehicle emerging from a junction. Very common for cyclists wearing ipods to wander out without looking between two cars in front of you as you filter up to a traffic light. I don't harbour any resentment for them; I treat them like deer or something. Pedestrians crossing against red man: sheep. Just mosey up to them and the way parts eventually.

Smooth progress and as fast as you dare to risk it when the visibility is good, hopping between gaps as the traffic islands come at you. Going against the keep left arrow is cheating, don't do it!

I just went into Tesco in Chichester and picked-up on of these for £29:

The one I got is 1280 x 1024 1.3M PIXEL even though the link above is for the 640 x 480 unit.

I ordered a drift HD over Xmas (save £50 at the moment, as the new model is out) and plan to ebay my 808 #16 V2, as I couldn't be bothered to open it up to solder in an external battery.

I did have one question though, would the police ever be able to confiscate the camera and footage to prosecute me if I was speeding for example?
