hit a huge pothole well riding before (could not see it was dark) and it has ruined the front tyre, it was ok for 2 or so miles then fucking exploded i didn't fall or anything but i am mightyly fucked off, does anybody know if the costs can be recovered from the local council or whoever is responsible for that road, i pay road tax insurance and extortionate fuel it is not unrealistic to expect the road to not damage my vehicle!!! really fucked off and help about costs would be highly appreciated! i got a picture of the flat (there is no visible gashes or anything) and will get a picture of the pothole tomorrow

thanks!

you can claim the council . i claimed for 2 tyres for my car & got the money for them a few months later .

i mentioned to the department that deals with claims in the council that i would take them to the small claims court if they didn't pay .

there's a process you need to go through to go to the small claims court & it will cost the council a good few thousand to give you the info you need to claim them for a hundred pounds for a new tyre .

potholes uk will give you the info you need .

Wotcha.

I hit an unlit ( the local drunks always smash the bollards on the way home from the pub ) "traffic calming" island. It totalled the offside rear wheel of the trike - and just to make it better, it was on the way home from a new year's eve bash . . . so try getting the AA out at half past one in the morning on new years day Smile

Anyroad - luckily I had spare wheels at home, so I bunged one on and went straight back with my camera.

This is what I hit - someone had put a road cone near there later on . . for all the good it will do.

And this is what it did to my wheel

https://www.moonshiners.org.uk/showme/dent01.jpg

I did get the local authority to pay . . . . . eventually.
Quite a bit of running around - one department saying it's another department's responsibility.
Bottom line - £60 for new wheel and tyre.

Up here in Jockland, there is an onus on the local authority to recompense damage if they were aware of the issue that caused it.

There are some websites for reporting potholes - check them to see if there is an existing report, which will strengthen your case.

The roads are in a shocking state and only getting worse.

Fucking appalling. I've just been out now and I think I know why they've put the "hazard" avoidance on the fucking MOD1.

Looked like I was trying to slalom fucking avoid a grate, and you get a prize, there'll be a pothole where you went, try avoid that and there's another one.

Cunts.

The roads are not there for recreation as the councils say.
They are part of a transport system.
Very Happy

Have to remember in alot of areas the roads where built on top of roman roads. So yeah they're shit but its a case of make do with what we got.

As for the roman roads comment I just made, Canterbury roads and surrounding towns are well known for this problem.

My front motocycle tyre alone costs more than £100. Even for 1 bicycle wheel and tyre I have spent double that! How the hell did you get a wheel AND a tyre for £60?

Wotcha.

As I said - I already had the wheels. Being a trike, they were Citroen 2CV wheels . . . . the tyres cost £21 each.

Ah - and it was back in January 2001 Embarassed
