Whats the minimum amount of money I should spend on a motorbike lock and what brand should I go for ?

If you don't have something like a unmovable object to chain the bike to would chaining it to a couple of 12ft long metal ladders suffice ?

Cheers

i would not say there is a minimum but as a rule the more expensive the better they are, see almax

if there is no object i would not use ladders they will take them too! i would install a ground/wall anchor

If you're just going to be chaining it to some ladders the cost of a chain probably is irrelevant, the easiest way to get the chain from the ladders would be to cut the ladders perhaps?

It's up to you how much you want to spend on a chain and what you want to chain it to. I spent 50 quid on one and it's around a metal drainpipe on my house with a disk lock on the back wheel and alarm.

Is there nothing you could chain it to? to prevent people from just picking your bike up and into a van?

where are you thinking of keeping it?

12ft ladders makes me think of a construction site.

or a back yard.

in either case, a LARGE plastic plant pot, you know, one of those 3ft tall 4ft wide ones,

fill with concrete

insert ground anchor.

makes for a relatively cheap disposable ground anchor if it is at a construction site. just get the site managers permission to put it somewhere first.

the ground anchor would be the weak point but it would make for a bigger deterant, especialy with one of the longer almax chains through the wheel and frame then ground anchor.

How much does your bike mean to you.

If you want to keep it 19mm Pragmasis or Almax. Pricey but cheaper than a new bike.

Then the scumbag can bungy the lump of concrete, plant pot and chain and to the back seat of the bike and ride it down the road.
Impossible ?? ............... I can assure you it can and has happened

A good hiding place, keeping it out of sight of scumbags would be more practical.
What they don`t see, maybe they won`t steal

See here https://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ and / or here https://securityforbikes.com/security-chains.php As described above if you have nothing to secure the bike to make a big plant pot reinforced concrete type ground anchor.

SnooSnoo. Be aware that most metal drain pipes are made from Cast Iron. Cast Iron happens to be a brittle material that has little resistance to a hammer blow and shatters very easily - 3 or 4 hammer blows will probably smash enough of it to remove a chain.

Get a ground anchor if this is all that is stopping someone from lifting your bike into the back of a van - alarms dont stop people from lifting bikes into the back of a van!

Ground anchor and an Almax / Pragmasis chain then.
