Yes really they really are supposed to make you feel better.
They have paracetamol in them.
(and possibly ?phenylephrine ?) which is good for unstuffying your nose during colds, erm, I mean MANFLU.

Trust me, I'm a mother.
I know these things.

(if you want to make it feel more authentic "just-like-mum-used-to-make", then add some extra lemon juice, squeezed from a real lemon, not one of those stupid plastic ones)

So don't take too many of them or don't take them with extra paracetamols all day, else you will end up damaging your liver and then you will really have something to moan about Laughing

I take the capsules as I find they help, I'm not keen on the drinks.

I also find that taking sudafed stops the congestion up your snout and allows you to actually blow your nose, rather than it just dribbling down your face.

Thumbs Up

Ultimate man flu remedy

1 lemsip MAX
1 Berocca tablet
Slice of fresh lemon
1 shot whisky

Throw into a glass, top up with boiling water.

If that doesn't work, you might need to up the whisky dose

Lemsips active ingredient is only paracetamol.
Why not just take paracetamol, and whisky.
Whisky is the only permissible medication for real man flu.

What is it that has phenylephrine in it, though? Or have they stopped adding that things due to people trying to turn it into crystal meth?

I think it was pseudoephedrine that got turned into meth, which used to be the active ingredient. Not sure if you can do the same to phenylephrine. Smile

I'm using lemsip max strength capsules just now to counter a pretty challenging bout of cold. (Its not the flu, its not that bad.)

Do they work? Do they fuck.

Its a con. I did once take a flu remedy and for the life of me cannot remember what one it was, it wasn't lemsip but may have been Sudafed... In any case it was one of those anoying dribbly runny eyes/nose colds, I was basically leaking snot from everywhere above my neck.

Took one of these pills (Benidryl?) and it was like someone had run a sponge round the inside of my head, I felt positively dessicated, whatever they were, they basically removed all moisture from my head.

Only yesterday as I dripped bogeys and snot onto my desk, I was asking colleagues if there was such a thing as a snot gland, when you have a cold, it doesn't matter how often you clear your nostrils out, fresh snotters are always ono tap to refill the void.

Forget expensive Lemsip.

Paracetamol, lots of fluids (water, tea, squash etc), and lots of vitamin C (either supplement tablets, oranges or juice), will do an equally good job. And the most important thing, stay cool. Don't think sweating it out works, or that because you feel freezing, you are. Wrapping up can cause febrile convulsions and when you feel freezing, you're more likely to have a heaving temperature and your hypothalamus has reset to try and make you feel a bit more comfortable. Stay as cool as possible and it will soon reset itself lower and you'll feel better.

Listen to the nice nurse, he knows what he's talking about.

One other thing. Man the fuck up. You're not dying.

Mainly kids I know, but I've known it happen in adults (although generally combined with other issues). But shhhh, I was trying to paint absolute worst case scenario, it's the only way to get adults to listen.

Homeostasis. I love that word.

And epistaxis. And peristalsis.

And you know you're a nurse when you can spell diarrhoea without thinking about it. And have worked through a lot of NHS acute ward winters and have never had norovirus...

Does Lemsip work, does it fuck!

It last for like 30 minutes and then my nose is back to running like a tap and I am mouth breathing again. Earlier in the month, about 2 weeks ago, I had a terrible cold (bordering on flu IMO) for 4 days, followed by nausea and then diarrhea Sick

Three Lemsip max sachets a day did nothing for me whatsoever and I will never be buying them again. I felt terrible that week and was bloody hard having to keep a cheery face working on a supermarket checkout for 8 hours a day, I failed miserably and looked glum to essentially every customer I served.

Next time it will be paracetamol and vitamin C as and when needed.
