You may know who inspired this thread Laughing

Anyway I'm thinking about having a go at living there (around Vancouver most likely)
for a bit and would love to know if anyone has been there.

I've spent a couple of months there and loved it. I actually thought to myself that I could imagine myself living there.

Can you tell me how does daily life there look like?
What kind of vibe do you get from the place?
Is there anything specific to look out for?

I'm planning to go there for a week next summer (testing the waters), so I'm trying to do my homework beforehand.

Vancouver is a great city, and right on the edge of wilderness so you can pretend to be Grizzly Adams if you get bored of the city.

It's kind of like the US, just without the Americans! Canadians in general seemed really nice people, even in the cities. I was in Alberta, which is a bit rural, but would have loved to have gone to Toronto or Vancouver. If you do go, visit somewhere residential, a place that you may realistically live, walk about, use the local shops, use the buses or trains, just to get an idea if you could see yourself doing that every day. I'm sure you'll feel very comfortable and like it.

Lived in Canada for a Year... it was the most amazing year of my life.

Lived in Van for a month, and that was cool. It's like a big American city minus the Americans. The infrastructure could support 5 times as many people. Walking the streets is quiet and feels safe.

Canada as a whole is brilliant. I lived most of my time in a place called Fernie which was absolutely amazing. The Canadians are friendly and love a good piss up.

Go! You won't regret it.

Some pics of my Van trip:

I've been but not to Vancouver, just some depressing parts of Ontario. It was a huge let down for me because it was nothing like I had expected. I think B.C is perhaps the most attractive location for most people to emigrate to as it seems very picturesque. I had to drive 4-5 hours to Algonquin Park in Ontario to feel like I was in Canada. Hiking in the national park, not another soul around but always the possibility you'd come across a bear. Absolutely loved it.

It's my main goal to emigrate to North America, specifically Canada & B.C if I can. If you do it, keep us up to date. Smile

A bit like the USA but with fewer Americans and better coffee.

I've been considering it for quite a while now, and my summer trip's purpose is to test the waters.
If it happens, you can bet for me to do a write up of it.

Never been, but it's up there on my list of places I'd love to go to.

I just discovered today that I have some (distant) relatives over there, so a trip to see my Canadian relatives might be in order.....

spent years there doing my M. Quebec and ontario though. Found the people shallow and cold. And the place is a multiculti cesspool. I guess it was the height of sanctions and they were very unfriendly. I ended up getting along more with black africans than white canadians, with whom I had little in common. You can imagine how that shocked them. The black africans also didnt like being patronised with that exxagerated frinedliness and deferment liberals use with people of colour.

I had this black friend from kenya, and we used to chirp each other amd the candians were shocked. Like he would say he had been a captain in the army so i must salute him. I told him, no, a white troop outranks even a black general Laughing . Or when we ate at different tables somewhere a canadian would ask arent we friends anymore. I would reply, yes but Im white and he is black; we cant eat at the same table. The 2 of us would burst out in laughter later at the reactions.

I had other ones as well. But the Kenyan I spent the most time with. Cant say it was like good mates, just that we had the most in common in such a PC liberal infected place.

I went home before the Kenyan and was flying via nairobi. I told him i would stop in and visit his family and when he got home his nephews and nieces would be choclate brown. LOL did he jump. No! I will kill you, never ! Laughing Was farkin hilarious.

I did drive out west on holiday. beautiful scenery. But no desire to return there.

I spent a couple of days on the Canadian side of the Niagra Falls. The thing I remember most was how friendly they were. Even the girl serving burgers from a van. Thumbs Up

Went three for 3 weeks 2 years ago, my dad sums it up well. It's America without the Paranoia. I loved it and if I was going to go to any country it would be there.

Just had a look at a careers in canada website.

The minimum annual leave allowance is 10 days, with most employers granting 15 days after 5 years service.

fuck that!!!

Is that right?

Yes. It is with my Canada based employer (I'm employed in the UK though) Its the same, if not worse in the States. I wouldn't move to a shit job over there, I'd move over to get a good one such that a reduced holiday entitlement wouldn't really matter to me.

I watched Canada spank the US live in the men's ice hockey final at the 2010 Winter Olympics

Vancouver's nice I spent three weeks there with work I'd love to go back, in fact as others have said I could see my self living there, if my situation changed I'd seriously consider looking for work there.
