I know Smotos got a couple for sale. Depends what you want the bike for? Commuting/fun or both. Thing is, some bikes need more servicing/maintenance than others.

What's your budget?

Presuming it's not that big, and you want decent reliability, you're going to have to go for something older and heavier.

While it wouldn't meet with Yam's pureist definitions, you can still have plenty of fun on bikes with an extra 20kg (which in the end is going to be less than the weight difference between some riders). Also means you don't have to spend a lot of money to decide if you like it.

From about £750 you can probably find a converted trail bike. Though you'll get a pretty tatty example at that end.

You can get a 2st mx conversion from around £1000. However most will be /very/ mental and likely to kill or seriously injure you pretty quickly if you're inexpereinced. Also need regular rebuilds.

yeah i dont think im lookin to spend that much. its only my first bike i mean apart from a ped!! but i hear on the grape vine that smoto has a couple, a 250 stroke which sounds promisin and a 600 4 stroke which isnt so inviting, but my bro will speak to smoto and get bak to me. cheers though

my bro said the 250 pops wheelies in several gears with no clutch im not sure if im ready for such a violent bike but u know i'll take n e thing on.

Wink Wink

probably end up spendin more than i orignally thought cos of all the gear and insurance and u know...

How about something like a Yamaha TDR250, they're great fun. Should be cheap to insure aswell.

Do you have a full licence? If not, you've go a choice of the supercity, tdr, sm125 or a converted dt.

if you have, you just need to decide between a proper supermoto (WR, XR, (LC4?)) , a "street"moto (ktm duke, husky 610) or a trailie (pegaso)

Lc4 is a street moto

EXC is but a "proper" moto is very expensive to buy and run ....

Not really reccomended as a first bike either as they are full on competition bikes..

Im looking at doing the DT 125SM route, what sort of things and expenses will I be looking at. Will I get away with just wheel changes or would be better off getting stiffer springs? How much for SM wheels?

Thanks for any help Thumbs Up

Dt springs are soft as hell Wink you can make some spacers up to give more pre-load but quite a few yams, xt6's ect have the same diameter forks so i planning on trying the springs out of them soon Thumbs Up

Derbi Senda SM 125, got one 7 weeks ago and it's the dogs, been loving throwing it about (including throwing it down the road). Trouble is it wasn't cheap, but with a 4T engine (from the Honda XR) it should be reliable

Try looking in your local free-ads / tradeit

you'll never pick up a very cheap bike from biketrader because they charge people for advertising.

Depends how long you'll have the bike as well, I bought mine because I wanted a SM, I wanted one that would be reliable and I knew I'd have it two years. Thats why I got the Senda cos of the 4T engine plus I didn't have to go and buy bits to convert it to a SM.
