Should a sump plug always have a washer on it?

I've never come across one without a washer. Do you have a service/haynes manual? Or do any new plug/filter kits mention that they come with a new crush washer?

What bike is it?

I've seen the copper washer get fused to the bolt because it hasn't been replaced and has been over-tightened too many times.

Crush washer I believe.

Just pop down to your closest dealers. If you pay over £1 for one I'll be surprised. I've always been given them for free when in there buying other things.

I just bought 4 for £2 with one of my Wemoto orders.

It would be a 'copper crush washer'? The point of using the copper is that it will 'crush' a little bit and thus seal it.

Hi

You can buy a decent size box of copper washers for not much on ebay. Worth it in the long term.

All the best

Not all sump plugs have washers, Fiat for example use a tapered sump plug with no washer on the majority of their vehicles, they're shit and leak like fuck which is why you never see a punto with a clean sump

The Aprilia RSV and Tunonos don't use a crush washer, use the tapered bolt mentioned above. It works really well, never had a drip from mine.

On one if the scooters I have the sump plug has a rubber, well, it must be silicone
due to the heat, gasket built in to the plug, but then, the whole plug is like £1.50 to replace.

Just use one. Keep the other one for your next service. Thumbs Up
