Just watching the news and the flooding in the South West. Feeling for all you people down there. Flooding is a bastard at any time of year but must be terrible so close to Christmas.
We've had constant rain in the Isle of Man for the last 24 hours and many of the islands roads are flooded and a couple of rivers have burst their banks and lots of houses and businesses are flooded. Most of the main roads are closed and there's more rain to come, combined with severe gales forecast for the Irish Sea area tonight.
How are things where you are?

South Devon near Ivybridge. Trapped. It's quite fun really. This happens every Christmas and we get the kayaks out and go kayaking on the road.

This is our road. In the near distance you can just about see the fence has collapsed. The water is about 2 feet deep and flowing very fast over there. I couldn't get close enough to take a closer picture.

This isn't a lake...it's a field

And here's our shed...about a foot of water in the garden, and it's got into the shed too! Also the bottom of my treehouse's ladder is underwater Sad

If the Mersey ever floods Liverpool then you know the world is about to end.

I'm not arsed if it floods Birkenhead though.

Living in the South West, I am glad where we live is on the top of a huge ass hill, if we were to flood then about 5000 houses would be flooded over their roof! Haha.

I do feel for those flooded, it must be terrible, but having sympathy for those flooded that actually live on flood planes is very difficult.

It's a bit flooded here:

https://www.shropshirestar.com/wpmvc/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/flood1.jpg

A bunch of footpaths are unpassable but so far i think almost all the roads are fine. It's still pissing it down however and will continue to do so for the next week so i expect things to get worse.

Surface run off flooding is just as prevalent, and doesn't just happen on flood plains

When "Over the Water" becomes Under the Water

If it ever floods this far up the Mersey (Stockport is where it starts in name, tho I'm probably closer to the Tame) then things must be royally fucked, tho no doubt it will give another excuse for the tracksuited mobs of Manchester to go on the rob for more iphones and trainers.

Oh sure, I fully understand.

However, buying a house on a flood plane and complaining that you get regularly flooded is like drinking lots of water and complaining about pissing a lot, it's inevitably going to happen, it's not if, it's when.

Sure you can get flooded off a flood plane, but it just really increases the risk and yet people are still surprised when it happens. Rolling Eyes.

Thankfully living on a hill and the work unit is upstairs (I believe the downstairs is not rented out as it's pretty much part of the river next door even without high water - we chucked some stones down in to the darkness blew the loose floor board and just heard a 'sploosh'!)

Anyway - a quick plug - for those that don't know, Blackwolf actually deals in sorting out flooded houses and stuff I believe - so if you do need such 'fixing', worth giving him a shout and seeing what they can do.
