Hi
I am new to this so sorry if this is a silly question, but does everyone have problems with their visor misting up. All I have to do is close the visor fully and its steamed up completely.
I know you cn get that anti mist stuff but does it work?
I used to scuba dive and all we had to do was spit in the mask and you was good.
Any ideas or certain cleaning stuff that works?

cheers
Shocked

A pinlock insert is the solution, it effectively double-glazes your visor and means you can ride in the cold and wet visor down, all the time.

+1 for pinlock, and opening the visor a crack when stationary.

Others may chime in with potato, washing up liquid, unicorn tears etc.

Dont bother with the Oxford Ultra Clear visor inserts. I see some people have success with them but I wanted to rip it right out within 30 minutes of the first ride in frustration. Trying to perserve with it for a bit longer but it doesnt stop misting.

Not all helmets have pinlock fittings but there is a universal DIY pinlock kit that I'm planning on trying next.

Another vote for pinlock here.

Only pain is if your visor doesn't already have the holes for fitting the pinlock insert as drilling them yourself is a pain and can lead to a poor seal. Most new helmets of a decent quality will have 'em pre-drilled.

Cant praise pinlock enough - I'm still amazed at how well it works.

I thought if it was pin lock ready it was pin lock ready.... Don't the inserts all look the same regardless of the visor ?

Pinlock works, but I nearly ruined my visor fitting the universal kit. The instructions are pretty poor, there are even gaps where I'm sure they meant to insert translated instructions but didn't get round to it Wink

I'm happy with the finished product though, it works. Worth the money, but get pinlock ready if you can. Or take universal kit to someone who has fitted one before.

I use Bob Heath anti mist. You have to clean your visor first though and apply it the night before for it to work well. It works better in colder tempratures i've found. I reapply it every other night.

There's a number of solutions. Some visors allow the use of pinlock inserts as someone mentioned. You can also get sprays that help reduce fog. What many people do is have the visor one 'click' up so prevent fogging as well as that allows an increased air flow into the helmet. It makes your face cold as well though.
I generally find sprays (I use the Bob Heath spray) don't work brilliantly. They do make a noticeable difference, but you still get fog.

I find wearing a headover and pulling it up over your nose to your eyes helps prevent some fogging. It slows and distributes the air as it comes out of your mouth/nose. Problem is, in the cold weather my nose runs, and the headover ends up soaked in snot.

If you can get a pinlock, get one. There's also something out there that you put over your nose - some kind of mask, makes you look like a fighter pilot. It directs your breath downward so that the visor doesn't get fogged. Can't remember it's name.

I find the best solution is getting a better helmet.

My shark doesn't fog up at all unless it's super cold and foggy, then it may get a layer of ice on it but there's not much you can do then!

I think nose shape has an effect as well. I have piggy nostrils which just blow my breath straight onto the visor Sad plastic surgery may be the only answer.

Pinlock works a treat. Rode in freezing cold, rain and fog. Didn't mist up once. https://www.pinlockshop.co.uk/

I have a cheap (£36) helmet and it only fogs up when I stop at lights. I find it easier to flip up the visor when I stop (i.e. open it fully), and once I'm going again I flip it down. I've never tried any products or special visors but I don't want to spend money when a quick flip does the job!

I used to do this until one day at night and in the rain I was approaching a roundabout, slowing down for it, when it was clear to go I went, but as I entered the visor had became fogged due to the few seconds at a low speed and I couldn't see where I was going. Wasn't nice desperately trying to open the visor when steering and praying I didn't hit anything.

That was the worst of a couple of iffy situations, opening the visor is hardly an ideal method and also causes "ice face" Wink Cannot say how much better it is to have a visor that doesn't fog up in the first place!

Respro foggy mask - it is anti fog breath guard and it works, can be used in full face helmets only.

And it stops fogging both my visor and my glasses.

This with Cressi swimming gogles anti fog spray on my glasses works great for me in rain or snow.
