I just can't believe the pay there so called journalists to write crap without any research
typical daily fail

Quote:
A holidaying family stumbled upon a huge 17-foot Burmese python as they picnicked in the Everglades.

The collosal snake, one of the mostly deadly in the world which kills by asphyxiating its victims and swallows dead prey whole, was shot by the Park ranger after it emerged from the bushes.

pythons do occasionally kill people, mostly ones kept in captivity by people that don't know what there doing,
but it's hardly one of the worlds most deadly snakes
in fact apart from there size when fully grown they are very easy to handle and mostly docile

Why do you read it?

The only time I have ever read it is when it has been posted on here and it just reminds me why I don't read it.

I expect they shot it as a potentially invasive species not because it was *deadly*.

yes unfortunately they are an invasive species in Florida in particular and they cull them
there is a big cull due in Jan as they lay there eggs in March / April

this was another fault in there report that the snake looked "Pregnant"
more likely it had just had a good meal as its very hard to tell if a python that size is pregnant
they lay 10 - 30 egg's not much bigger than a ducks egg so they don't look "Pregnant"
only way you tell is to feel there abdomen feeling for the egg's

What did they expect in The Everglades Rolling Eyes

When I went I saw loads of dangerous animals (mainly alligators) and felt very privileged to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

You only kept Burmese Pythons? Got any pictures of them? And "had" so I assume you no longer have them? Why not?

Sorry for all the questions. Interested in snakes. Thumbs Up

Probably not a 17foot BURMESE Python? Wink

They were introduced way back when and have taken over, they are far from aggressive though, one of the nicest snakes to keep infact(bar my old royal python, she was lovely)

yes I was part of a breeding program where we kept Burmese till they were old enough to breed

I have pictures but since this was back in the Mid 80's they are "photograph's" so I'd need to scan them in

I stopped because having a large snake in a house with a new born child is not a good idea
esp when they can get out of any thing you put them in quicker than Houdini

Acemastr

I have to agree the claimed 17 foot would be an exceptional snake and there size if often over estimated
as measuring a snake is not easy to do, Baby the biggest Burmese on record was 18' 10"

I seen one trying to asphixiate a young lassie who was dancing infront of all these other men one night.

There were more than just one 'deadly python' wishing to 'harm' her that night. Smile

Snakes are cool. It's hamsters you've got to watch out for, their teeth are vicious. Let's get the internet mumz on a campaign against hamsters, I bet it can be done and hamsters could be banned. Maximum trollage Laughing
