tomos tx50 oil

hi there i got this little motorcross bike for pennys, it starts,goes etc(just)

my problem is when i started to drain the oil it was like black and it stunk of petrol, came out as if it was water..am i right in saying it should be transmission fluid?

i beleive they never sold this little bike in the UK either

I think the engine in this bike is the A35 type.
you need to refill it with 10w30 oil, 3ccm is quoted, but please check this out first.

Yeah I read that, it's stamped A5 which means A35 apparently

What would u say is that cause for the petrol smelling oil?

Sounds like fuel from the crankcase has seeped in. May be a seal gone. I would change the oil and run it for a while, but keep an eye on it. If you still have a problem, either I or someone else will be sure to advise.

I'd change the filter as well.

ahh, i was afraid someone would say that, i will change the oil and see how it goes, is there a way of knowing if the seal has definately went? i.e leaking etc, as the oil was as low as it could possibly get. i only just got this in exchage for a case of beers so dont know much history Sad

If a gearbox side crank seal has gone it usually draws oil in through it resulting in blue smoke and sooty plugs.

If the other side has gone you can get a loss of vacuum resulting in poor starting and sometimes blowpast onto the alternator.

hi

im not sure what side it is,just when i drained the oil out it was like black petrol with very little oil in it.yes it was smokey but running premix i would sort of expect that??

check its not got a sticking carb float if its been sat for a while maybe the crankcase filled with petrol at some point.

I think that may the issue, I've filled it back up with gear oil, seems ok not leaking etc, though its quite smokey I may of went overboard with the 2 stroke, and there's black oil coming from exhaust pipe is this quite normal for a bike that's lay for a while ?
