 |
|
Every Year I promise to 'Get the bike on the road for this Summer"
The VF1000 has rotted before my eyes, on such promices for the last decade. The CB750, has been toyed with in fits and spurts but never really 'happened' for the last four years. The DT I bought three years ago as a 'quick scrubber upper' for that summer never happened until last year, then got nicked before I got to ride it. I never seem to keep my New-Years resolutions....
SO!... THIS YEAR, I resolve.....
1/ to continue watching the old VF rust away
2/ to tinker with the 750 and not ACTUALLY do more than ride it up and down the drive
3/ To buy more 'scrap'.... 'project-bikes', rather than get the ones I got going some-where.
Well! At least if the inversions don't work, I'll have kept a resolution for once!

1. Buy a stomp road legal pit, and avoid having it nicked.
2. Do at least one track day on the smc.
3. Tape my horn buttons down, strap a siren to my helmet, and do all I can to keep my rubber side down and point myself out to the blind arrogant dingbats out there.

I sorted the main one a few days ago, finally got a replacement left mirror and clutch lever after the last owner dropped the bike and broke them - now it looks a bit better for examiners!
Pass my test has to be up there, as well as know how the thing works. It's slowly sinking in
update - the mirror thing might have worked!! ____________________ If you can keep your head when all about you

It was supposed to be a new years resolution, but I got a chest infection in mid December, so took the opportunity and gave up smoking.
Haven't had a cigarette since the 20th of December, which is a good thing, because smoking was costing me an average of fifty quid a week, which is insane.
So, to drag this back on topic, I'll be saving the cash and buying my next bike with it.
In the meantime, I want to a) get better at maintaining the bike; b) get better at riding the bike.
I still don't have the confidence to lean the bike on wet surfaces, which bothers me. Wet roads are pretty much the default here in the uk. ____________________ The Old Apprentice |

I want to buy myself an old stroker, An old H1 or H3 would be ideal, but in reality I expect I will have to make do with a Suzuki 380 or 550 for the money I will have .
I will also have to get rid of my daughters CBR400RR which has lived on my bike table since she gave up riding. It hasn't started for over a year, had the end can nicked off it for our Fazer and is looking very sad covered in dust. I also need my table as my back isn't into grovelling around on the ground doing oil changes etc. anymore.

Before the end can got nicked, half an inch of dust had accumulated and I got totally fed up with working on it. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

TM your post did make me smile a bit, probably because i can see a bit of myself in the situations you described with your projects status.
For me it has to be:
1, actually start doing up this bloody KMX project that will have been in my head for 7years. There's no way id put a time scale on it now, but i'll be happy if i can get it as far as my saved up funds will take it, wether that's a finished bike or a 50,70,90% finished machine. Putting a budget figure on it would just be silly now IMO. If i find enough cash to finish it this year that would be awesome, if not i'll do a bit and save a bit until one day it's done!
2, Get my car back on the road and again do all the essential mechanical jobs and get all the running gear brakes, suspension, wheels and tyres in good shape. After that i'll probably spend a few quid on service items and a dyno session. After all that i'll probably be too broke to run it for the rest of the year.
The unlikely projects/resolutions, but you have to have them, and the next project/s that fill your head etc, for me are:
1, Re-landscape the garden (doesn't sound as good a use of £1000 as buying KMX parts though!) A get a big shed for the next project!
2, All the KMX related junk i've got, and there's alot of it, could be used to put together a tatty cheap field bike, or maybe one with a daytime MOT, so that i can go play in all the off roading but not always legal spots i've happened accross over the last year.
3, I wouldn't mind an abroad holiday with a bit of trail riding, the hotter and dryer the place the better! |

finished work for christmas on the 22nd and couldn't smoke over xmas because the kids would be upset if they knew, so its back to work on the 2nd after 11 days without, will be saving £100 a month
if I can stay off them a new full race system for the bike arrives for my birthday in april from the money not spent on cigs
gave up before for 6 years, full cold turkey, no patches, no gum, no support
oh yea, I'm going to ride my bike a lot more for pleasure if the weather permits, I have to commute on it anyway no matter the weather ____________________ Some people feel the rain, others just get wet. |

Ride to Plymouth and ferry it to Spain.
Slim the collection down to 2 on road and 1 off road.
Buy 2 stroke 125, fix and sell to some chav.
Buy off road bike before February.
Get road registered by May.
That's about it |
