As above, my GSXR6 needs some new rubber.

I've read good things, the only thing stopping me buying them right now is whether they'd be sticky enough for the occasional trackday.

Being realistic, I'm sure they'd be better than me and probably suit the UK climate well, just after opinions of people that have experience of them.

Bike used for 30 miles of A road commuting, playing at weekends and the odd trackday.

From the short time I had with them, I preferred the PR2.

Not sure why, maybe it was just because I was so used to them, but they were grippy enough to not worry about how much oomph you gave it out of the corner.

I know many people use PR3s and are happy with them, but I know you can get near 15k out of a rear on a ZZR600 with PR2s Laughing

Must add, I get my arse handed to me though...on the CBR or the GSXR I was beaten by the guy on the ZZR

Absolutely mental wet grip, when new I could drive like it was dry no matter what conditions, warm up in seconds, good feedback when starting to slide and general happiness. Google the reviews, sold em to me.
Just expensive Sad

Ofc, this is on a 33bhp fazer. If they let a noob like me scrape pegs (unintentionally on a roundabout if I'm honest) without mishap then they crnt be too bad, but 100bhp + I have no experience how they handle.

They are decent, I had them on the FZ6 and did a track day with no issues. Also BishBash bought my bike and did brands on them back in October with no issues in the fast group.

Depends how much you want to push it though...

On the ZRX loads of wet grip and feels very flickable with them, can't talk about mileage as haven't done that many miles on them - though the front doesnt seem to have worn much since fitted a few months ago.
They'll make you very confident on wet roads certainly. Much better than the Battlaxes the bike originally had fitted.

Felt slower to turn than the PR2's I thought but I didnt get to use the PR3's anywhere near as much so maybe due to wear. Overall much the same with both being way beyond the limits im capable of reaching.

Garth, have you thought about having 2 sets of tyres? one for on the road and the other for track?

It might be worthwhile considering getting your own setup for changing tyres. This can be done pretty cheaply and you will save money from each tyre purchase (online) plus no fitment costs.

I have the pilot road 2's on my 9R and I think they are amazing for the road. Really great tyres that last a long time and grip well. I wasn't sure if they'd be good enough coming from BT014's but I'm very happy.

haven't done a trackday though so would be wrong for me to comment on that.

I do know that a lot of people regard the PR3's as the best wet grip on the road, although not surprising given the tread on them.

The best wet tyre I've ever used, bar none. Warm up time is the best I've used as well - not only did they feel they didn't require much scrubbing in time when fitted, but I could ride down to the main road where I live (less than half a mile), and the tyres would feel warm enough to start throwing the bike around - usually takes a mile or two on other tyres I've had. I've never had such a good set of tyres for commuting use (which is 65% of my riding or so), and seem to last well as well.

Superior to the Roadsmarts and Diablos I usually use. For my level of ability, I simply couldn't fault them - except for them being a little bit more expensive than the other brands I've had.

Managed 7k miles out of mine and that was pushing it daily(my commute is epic Smile )

Only ever had one incident where I gave it too much on a slightly damp 2-3c road and the back stepped out enough to fling me off the seat.

Only reason I changed them was a stone went through the rear and punctured it.

Now have Michelin Power Pures and really can't tell the difference so far, they don't feel any different!

I have them on my gixer and they transformed the bike. I have more confidence leaning it over and riding in the wet plus after a few thousand miles on them they still have lots of tread left. I haven't done a trackday in the bike though so couldn't comment about that.

Thanks everyone, they sound like they will do me just fine.

Ideally I want two sets of wheels, which is the plan, but I don't have the cash spare at the moment. I'd then use PR3's as my road/wet tyre and a set of scrubs for the track in the dry.

And this is what I've thought about myself also.

I'll update/review once fitted.

Might be cheaper (or a better choice) for you to get setup to change tyres rather than have 2 sets of wheels. That way you can buy cheapest price online so save money on the actual price of the tyre, then also save fitment cost and balancing.

You don't need a compressor to fit them either. I learned to use brake cleaner and a lighter from someone on here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBQ2-m6PNz8

You'd need:

Bead Breaker (abba one is £60 new)
Balancing Stand (£40 new from ebay)
TR412 Valves
Wheel Weights
3 rim protectors
3 long Tyre levers
Some window cleaner

I get that you don't have the money just now but worth thinking over in my opinion.

Good luck with the new tyres! Thumbs Up

I'm using them on the Sprint - they're very grippy in the wet, and consequently very confidence inspiring.

In the dry they feel a little slow to react - turn in sensation is dulled a little. But it's not massively off-putting.

Better than being shit in the wet. I've got a BT021 on the rear and a ContiMotion on the front. Both are shit. Rear spins up and the front feels like its going to tuck under every time you even come close to a roundabout on a damp road.

I can't wait to swap to PR3s! But I can't bring myself to waste the tread on these tyres Razz I think i'll enjoy the dry summer on them and then change for winter.

S'what I had on f/r before the PR3 - didn't rate them TBH.

Edit: See below, they were 023's!

I'd also recommend bt023's as an alternative on a whichever you can get cheaper basis. Will do everything the pr3 can.

People tend to avoid Bridgestone because of the 021 but honestly the 023 is so much better.

BT021's are horrible, especially once worn. Heard good things about BT023's, although my experience with Bridgestone is somewhat tainted by front end washouts and feel of the 021's.

Dunlop Roadsmarts were fine for me on my old Fazer and ZX9R, so I'm sure PR3's will be equal if not better than them.

Just realised, it was the 023's I had, not the 021's - and I didn't rate them as much as the PR3. To be fair though, they were worn and worn into someone else's riding style - plus more than a bit square.

I had BT023s on my ZZR (after some pretty knackered Dunlops) and they were fantastic wet or dry. Looking at reviews there was nothing between them and the PR3s except price.

My mate has the PR3s on his CBF600S and he really rates them for all weather commuting.

I'm with Craigs on this, the PR3 is the best wet weather tyre going and warms up quick to boot (Too quickly for particularly hot countries it seems Laughing ). No mean feat given how good tyres like the RoadSmarts are in the damp.

As noted, the most noticeable difference between them and the BT023 is the overly steady profile. Suits me personally since I'm an overly steady rider Wink But some might not like it. Some have also noticed that the front isn't quite on par with the rear with it moving and flexing a little more when pushed proper hard, most likely down to the large number of grooves and cuts in the tyre.

'Overly steady profile' is probably irrelevant when compared to the current V shape cupped M1 that's on the front, coupled with the rock hard Z6 on the rear. Laughing

The BT023's do come out cheaper, however. Decisions, decisions.

023's are good enough for the Ron Haslam race school, including his blade used for pillion laps.

PR3's and 023's seem to be the best tyres available at the moment for all round grip and riding (that's even discounting the heavily biased bauer publications' words); it's just a shame they're so bloody expensive.

Me? I'm getting another set of the Maxxis diamonds. £185 fitted. Get in. Cool

After reading some reviews, it would appear they are cheaper for a reason...!
