I was on my home yesterday, following a car that wasn't inspiring much confidence. The driver kept slowing down, last minute braking and generally not looking where he (or she) was going.

I was following him towards some lights, he changed lanes, without indicating, then suddenly pulled back into my path.

I couldn't get in front, so I just held back. I followed him round to left and again, without indicating, he pulled in to the curb. I saw my chance and tried to nip round him. He then suddenly pulled a U turn and cut straight across me!

I had thought to stay back, but when I saw the chance I took an unnecessary risk by trying to pass. But still, what a twat!

Glad you didn't get knocked off! Drivers like that scare me.

I'll always aim to pass them ASAP because being behind them scares me, just a bugger about that U-turn.

Where are the plod when you actually want them to be around?

Sounds to me like they were looking for an address and obviously had no clue which was the right way.

In situation like that I hang right back and pick my moment to get past them - as you did - however I do a couple of blips on my horn just to say "look, here I am", okay it might piss them off a bit but I'd rather get a two finger salute than being wiped out.

Don't be afraid to use your horn to signal your presence to other road users / pedestrians Smile

They were probably going from the airport to bath way and messed it up. That one way system at parson street is a nightmare for those that don't know it.

Either that or are from hartcliffe and were off their tits on crack.

Cheap Christmas crack no doubt! That area can be difficult to navigate, but it's all clearly marked. Why don't they pull over and check?!
Anyway, the lesson is to hold back. Try not to get frustrated and advance when safe.

With drivers like this, I often change my route depending on where they go!

You've got it the wrong way round. You are safe if you're behind them, you can stay well back. You don't want to be in front of them as your at their mercy then.

I agree in concept, but these drivers tend to be the ones that go excessively slowly, brake during corners (when it's a pain for me to break sharply) and change lanes more frequently than a woman changes clothes before a date.

If you're in front of them you quickly lose them by just riding at the speed limit Smile

You could of course stay really far back, but you'd risk other drivers overtaking you unsafely because of them thinking you're the muppet and not noticing the guy in front! Smile

There's a few areas in Bristol that the lanes are clearly marked, but they seem to change at the last minute and a lot of lane hopping goes on (just past Temple meads springs to mind).

Just after I moved to Bristol I was caught out by a lot of the junctions that seemed to point out to one lane then point you to another... either that or bad directions from the passenger.... that and there is a lot of twats on the roads these days
