Looking for something to monitor the back garden at night with.

Stuff seems to be getting knocked over, moved or going missing; so I have decided to look into this with cctv.

I haven't a great budget so was looking for something rather on the cheap. I've had a few scans on ebay but cant seem to depict something that stands out. I am saying I want to be able to view the garden when its gone dark but dont want one of those cameras with the infared as they are obvious and stand out?

Have thought of hiding one in a bird box or something but unsure.

Would it be possible to utilise my Tivo for any constant recordings?

TL;DR - Suggest me inconspicuous & cheap CCTV.

Thanks Wink .

Have a look at the Foscam stuff, they're pretty cheap and work at night too.

Techmoan review

Isn't it possible to just rig something up to a computer? I know that's what I'm going to be looking into soon

Well you could use a webcam but I can't see you'd get great night time footage unless your garden is well lit.

Amazon have an IP camera for £30 delivered. I've just had one and it's pretty good, moveable remotely, audio both ways and can be set up to email you when it detects motion.
Don't think it would last too long outside though, maybe under a cover or inside a window/shed.

IP cam's are great I've used them to monitor places hundreds of miles away
you can even set up remote alarm if the camera detects something moving as 10 pence said Thumbs Up

Links?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-camera-Pan-Tilt-2-ways/dp/B00432J56G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357252382&sr=8-1

First one to come up when you search for IP camera.
Dunno how to do those fancy short links.

Definatly seem to tick the right boxes, will look into both link directions in more detail and see if techmoan is worth x2.5 the extra £.

Thanks Karma Thumbs Up

Now, the second cam in the list from the link I posted has got my interest!

However, I am a firm believer in CCTV can attract more attention than detur it.

So... Ideas for mounting that I have come up with so far are:

- Within a bottomless fake bird box

- Behind a dummy sky satelite dish

Preferable between the bedroom windows on the outer wall of the hosue.

Looking though for some more input, creative ideas?

Thanks Thumbs Up
