Following on from the theft of my R1, tonight my neighbour saw someone looking at my garage last night whilst walking their dog and told me asap
So looks like the theifs are still scope out for the other R1 they didnt take that night

Now im gonna get a tracker fitted my 00 R1 and curious to hear your views as what you feel is the best one

My google research has shown me that www.tracker.co.uk seem to be the best as they use not only gps but vhf which works even if the theif has a jammer or if the bike is underground or in a container

Cant bring the bike home until the council fit a new door and extra security is installed and tracker fitted to the bike

Whats your views on these trackers and has anyone had their vehicle recovered from having a tracker fitted?

if nothing else, knowing you stand a decent chance of getting it back is worth the cost, especially as they know another bike is there.
I used to work for a Caravan spares shop, we got told by an insurance guy that Caravan thieves often go back to where they stole a Caravan 8 weeks earlier as they know the insurance will have paid out and the owners will have bought a replacement with the cash.
a Tracker won't stop them getting your other bike, but you may catch them and get both back.

I fit them so I'm understandably biast.

Tracker in my opinion are the best, as they have a exclusive deal with the police, which is always a helping hand.

Heard of plenty of stories from customers of cars being returned.

The only downside of Tracker is the cost, and on a bike, finding somewhere good to hide it, but as long as you have an experienced fitter, shouldn't be a problem.

Are you using the R1 as daily transport at the moment?

If not I have a garage in Kent you can stash it in for a few months...

+1 I've got all my bikes locked up out of sight in my garden, all chained together...6 of the fuckers Laughing

I would invest in more than a tracker buddy, garage heater, mattress and a cricket bat ideally. Live in there till those guys have been beaten with your bat.

But, seriously. Alarms, chain everything you can to the bike. Give them the hardest time...

Ground anchors, 19mm chains, 12 bore alarm mines - enough of these and you might get a machine-gun effect, that should draw attention. Laughing

What security are you planning? Have you made a list?

Well for new security first a new door and my mate who works in steel construction is gonna make a gate inside the garage after you open the garage door, plus have some locks into the ground inside that will make the door very hard to open without a lot of noise.

if they knock a hole through the wall to get in they fail for a bike that is only worth £2500

I will get a tracker fitted from www.tracker.co.uk as if this R1 went missing i would actually cry 11k miles and its does everything i want it to do and will only get rid if old age requests that i have sit up straight bike

gonna order a 19mm chain, and have 2 110db motion senser alarms inside the garage

not using the R1 at the moment so i am on public transport lol sold the vespa that was working as if thats stolen thats £375 im out of pocket which i dont want at the moment
other vespa has a blown engine due to oil starvation so its probably only worth £200 if im lucky body work is very good for a 1997 vespa so will sell that as soon as the insurance claim regarding that is complete

will look into those blank mines as well, im gonna go all out!

just found out that the theifs broke into 4 garages that night!
and these theives have been going round sydenham, lewisham, areas breaking into garages and houses

the whole thing is such an inconvenice

thanks for the offers of garage guys but having my bike locked in an under ground police station car park is the most secure ill ever get

the muslims countires get a lot wrong with some aspects but their treatment of theives is great wheres Batman when you need him!

we have considered CCTV but its just impractical as the garage is not far but it is too far and awarkward for a proper power supply to be set up as its dark round the garages and Lewisham councils budget wont pay for it only other thing is dummy cameras

the cctv would only be good for showing the scrotes who are breaking into the garages, wish it was a practiacl working idea.

all i would say is if you are reading this please step up your security to the best that you can afford lets give them a harder time stealing our hard earned bikes

to be honest i dont want to catch them because if i ever did i would end up in prison as our justice system tends to favour criminals instead of victims which would mean no more warcraft for me, no more hobbit films, no more sunday ride outs, no more reading BCF and Krads comments due to being inside for defending my property!

Trackers are ok but not as good as people make out. They can be immobilised very easily on a bike as there is not too many places the device can be hidden, plus the gps antenna needs to have a clear view of the sky for a decent lock. It is different t for a car as you can really hide the unit behind panels.

My bike is chaind to a floor anchor in the garage and for good measure chained to a full set of ladders Shocked . Should make for a comical theft if nothing else!

put a false ignition on it and leave the key in.
Here is how it goes:
They break into your now fortified garage.
'sweet he has left the key in it'
They move it out of the garage to front of house to ride away.
Press starter, alarm sounds.
Maybe turns into a transformer too...

I use a tracker from Quartix - it's about £20 a month, and they supply and fit it for free so no upfront costs or anything.

the website also has reports you can run off showing top speed etc (very childish, i know) and will show you a map of where the bike is or where it's been etc, seems quite flexible.

worth a look, definitely gets a Thumbs Up from me

A friend has a Tracker on their Gixer 600.In the past I have moved the bike without the key in the ignition and within no time at all a text has been sent to their mobile stating that the bike has been moved, even just a few feet.

Just to offer an alternative viewpoint here, I have a BikeTrac fitted on my bike and right now I can log on to their website and see that my bike is still sitting in my brick-built garage with hefty partially-metal roof. On past rides it hasn't lost signal (I can look to see exactly where I have been and how fast I went) even having ridden through long tunnels etc. Mine is in a non-descript black box which is hidden fairly well and the only wire coming out of it leads to the battery. The drawback to this is that the subscription per year is reasonably expensive but it does offer immense peace of mind to me.

So my experience of trackers has so far been very positive Thumbs Up

Oh, and my bike texts me when its battery is running low now!

Can you get a combined alarm, immobiliser and tracker? It's hard enough finding room for one black box on my bike, never mind two.

I use to run a fleet management company in which we fitted them to commercial vehicle fleets. Tracker are very good for asset tracking.

What's their pricing structure like now? Do you buy them outright and pay a yearly subscription or are they leased?

You definitely want one that can immobilise the engine remotely too if possible. That will only work when the engine is stopped though. Also some of them alert you if the vehicle is moved when the engine is not on.

The police notification is a good feature of Tracker that most don't have.

Hey Woo.

We have a tracker on our cars, from the obvious "Tracker", however I have heard of quite a few people "making" their own trackers.

On all our Apple products in the family we use, on our phones for example the "Find My IPhone" application. You can pick up an iPhone 3GS for around £50-£100 roughly and then load the "Find My IPhone" application on it.

Once that's done they either:

A) Charge the phone in the house once a week and keep it in the under-seat storage of their bike the rest of the time.

B) The better one. They wire a phone charger into the wiring loom of the bike so their iPhone is constantly plugged in and charging and then they hide the phone somewhere out of the way so that it can't be seen easily on the bike.

Then, with a cheap SIM (like £5-£7.50 a month) you have an improptu "Tracker" which can locate your bike anywhere in the world at any time, plus, if the phone is on silent and set to auto-answer calls you can listen to the people chatting around your bike, say the thieves' voices and such.

Compare that to the £700 cost for a Tracker installed + a lifetime subscription on a motorcycle from Tracker, £80 for a 3GS + £80 or so a year for a SIM card (or even less on Pay as you Go) which arguably could work better than some trackers. The only benefit of the tracker from Tracker is they call you if the vehicle moves when you aren't there but for an impromptu low-cost tracker it works fantastically well.

Personally though, whilst that idea is very good and will/would work well, the original Trackers are great. The ones we have on our company fleet are all linked to Tracker so they can be located via GPS plus if they are moved out of certain hours then we are called to inform us and some other features that aren't really relevant to the non-business user but the Motorcycle tracker they offer is a great system however I don't believe they use telematics/GPS like our business ones do, so I'd probably use a combination of the iPhone/Tracker one personally if my bike did have a tracker.

My Father has a friend who had one of his company trucks stolen and after being notified by Tracker he told them that it had indeed been stolen (no-one from his company scheduled to be driving it at the time) and Tracker notified the Police Force where the truck was and it was found within thirty minutes. Once found the Police asked the owner for permission to "camp" the trucks so if the thieves came back to collect they could arrest them, in the end they didn't come back but my point is basically he could it have had it back within a few hours after it was found within thirty minutes from the moment he was informed of it being stolen.

Whatever you decide, trackers are very worth it and I am glad you have decided to get one, they are a fantastic bit of kit. In my opinion a few hundred quid to almost guarantee your get your vehicle back (bar some pretty serious and professional thieves) compared to the cost of claiming on insurance/total loss/repair etc is a very small price to pay.

Hope that helps Woo. Thumbs Up.

Seems like an expensive solution to me...

I use a

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/1_hero.jpg

You can pick up a TK102 from ebay with a hardwire kit for a lot less than the cost on an old iPhone.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/188253/hardwired_hero.jpg

You can use a GiffGaff Sim in it, bung £10 on it and get 1 minute notifications for over a year for your tenner. The TK102 can either send you SMS messages or send data to a server or your choice. You can also do ring fenced areas etc. Data format is pretty simple. If you're a windows user you could use the gpsgate sofware ( https://gpsgate.com/download ) - If you're a linux user I expect you to be fine with mysql, php and quite happy to roll your own, or use some of the example code available.

A friend runs terraio if you're interested in paying a little bit more you can get reports like this one - the system can also push the data to your server too if you like.
