My continuing adventures on a 125

Okay as some of you may know, I rode to Greece and back on a 125 this past summer (2012 CBF 125) and I eventually plan to ride around the world on one (I'm thinking spring 2014 start date, hopefully on a 125 Varadero, really want to try one out) As for this summer, I want to do a few trips. One being through the Alps and around the south of France, Italy etc and back again.

Now it's less distance than my jaunt to Greece and back I hear you cry, yes. But I want to take my girlfriend this time. Now I might bite the bullet and take my 650 BMW but I'm just aching to do it on the 125 again. I ferry her about all the time on nice days here, when we don't want to take the car, and there's no issue with performance on the bike really, can hold 60 fine, sure it's a little sluggish but it's really not a problem, I want to take my time on this trip anyway.

But that sort of duration, with a pillion, on a 125, with luggage... I'm sceptical myself... Any opinions?

If you want to do it, then go for it, and you will have a blast. It's obvious that your going to choose something sensible and popular with a good spares availability and dealer back up. I also presume you won't be doing it on a high output 2smoker, as I bet there are lots of parts of the world where you cannot get decent UL fuel let alone fully synth injector oil.

Being serious I've had the most fun of all my years of biking riding 100cc,125 and 200cc bikes. I really don't think Id be happy with something like a new ZX10R unless I could still have at least 1 or more small bikes in the 100-250cc range. I've never done a trip longer than 140miles in a day on a CG125, but that distance was comfortable and lots of fun too! Any 125cc 4stroke especially and air cooled one, I would be sticking to 1000mile oil changes, and filter changes/cleaning as appropriate. It worked for my CG125 and I never had to do anything other than maintain it and thrash it all the time.

Anyone can do anything with the right mindset etc (within reason).

BUT, my main concern would be the GF......I know, what's wrong with me..... But if she is a bit of a moaner (and not in a good way), being cramped on a thinly padded 125 struggling to crack 35 on hills, could put a dampener on the whole thing.

2/3rds of the world seems to bumble about with 3 people onboard 125's, but if it was me and a lass on the back, I'd definitely go the 650 route.

This type of thing Is mainly why I decided to go with motorbiking. Last summer I spent countless hours on my roadbike exploring the countryside. 3 hours on a motorbike would be much more adventure. Am looking into a veredaro myself!
