Hi, selling some items on ebay and have been asked to post them to a different address as it is his mates paypal. Anything dodgy about this?
Thanks, Grant

Personally, I wouldn't do it. He can go pick up his bits at his mates. But I guess if all the messages about it have come through to you through eBay, then you might be alright.

VERY dodgey.

You will not stand a hope in hell of winning the inevitable "item not received case" case will persue after you post and he collects it.

ONLY ever ship to the paypal address on file.

Also, send it recorded and make sure you keep the proof of postage.

Sounds like you have a scammer on your ass here.

I've ordered things to my ex's house before from my PayPal... so obviously a different address. Also to my uni address from my PayPal... so obviously a different address.

I've even messaged sellers to change the delivery address because I accidentally selected to delivery an item to my girlfriend's house when it was meant to be a little surprise extra present for her birthday.

You can have multiple addresses in your paypal account and can you can choose which one you want at checkout.

People should use this method, not sending messages.

This protects the seller, which lets face it, ebay and paypal dont give a feck about the sellers.

I would only post to verified addresses, (I think that's what PayPal call it)

Dude, If you send to any address other than the paypal address, and the buyer opens a dispute, paypal will just screw you over for not following their terms and conditions of use.

Just make sure you send it recorded if its not recorded they can just lie and keep the item and force a refund from you...

You will have rendered yourself ineligable for seller protection if you send the item to a different address:
paypal wrote:

Eligibility Requirements

*You must obtain proof of delivery that can be tracked online.

*Seller Protection covers physical items only. Check that the item is eligible in the 'Transaction Details' in your PayPal account and in your confirmation email.

*Eligible transactions between buyers and sellers in the UK, US and Canada qualify for Seller Protection. If you're selling on eBay, you can post to buyers in any of the 190 countries where PayPal is accepted and still be covered.

*Only post to the buyer's address provided in the 'Transaction Details' and only accept payments in full from a single PayPal account.

*If you deliver an item in person or post it in any other way that can't be tracked, you won't be covered.

I'd suggest issuing a refund then getting him to put it through again with the correct address. Obviously, message him via ebay that this is what you propose to do first.

Any reasonable person will see this as you looking after both his and your interests by ensuring his paypal account isn't being used fraudulently.

Not according to Paypal's rules - you must use a service that has online tracking. Recorded doesn't always do this.

If his mate will let him use his paypal then I'm pretty sure his mate can accept the delivery for him too Wink

Word of advice, you should only post to the address(s) on paypal. Wrongs' right, if the seller says he never got the item (regardless of first class signed) you will have no comeback, I sold a phone on ebay and got screwed over this. Just google paypal sucks for more reasons.

Well. Tell his mate to add the address they are to go to to his paypal account and select that as the delivery address. Problem solved.

I have various addresses registered to my paypal because I sometimes have gifts sent directly to someones house.
