So, I've noticed a few comments lately about the weather, but it does occur to me, this winter hasn't been all that bad.

I mean, last year there was FAR more snow and hazardous conditions. I think we got lucky in terms of it because of the large number of people rushing to pass their tests.

thoughts?

you're right, there has only been one weekend where it was lashing it down with hail when I've not used the bike. Other than that I've been using my daytona all the way through winter and haven't really felt the same risk as I did last winter.

We havent really had a winter yet. The worst has been just been a week of frosts.

Still time yet though. Last February we were under a foot of snow for most of it so not counting any chickens yet!

This winter has been *really* mild - at least here in the East Riding. It's been bloody great, to be honest. True, torrents of rain have fallen - but this has at least helped to wash the salt and grit away, even if there have been some weekends and evenings when riding would have meant getting totally satched. In any case I'm certainly not complaining - I've been out and about 95% of the days/nights. I've done nearly 3k miles since the end of September.

Yeah the last few days have been wonderful, clean dry roads. It's been awesome.

I just got my 125cc at the end of November so I'm thankful for it ;p.

But yeah, we've barely had a winter yet, it's been so warm, the wind has even been warm on some nights.

I'm looking outside now, there's barely wind, white cloud and the roads are dry. Gonna head out soon Cool.

I have just return from a quick ride (Derby Road), noticed a lot of bikers out; it doesn't feel like winter.

Any of you fellow bikers out today?

Ran a couple of errands on the bike today but thats about it.

I strapped a monitor wrapped in bubble wrap in a box with some primark paper bags in there for extra padding to the bike to post off.

Got some funny looks to be honest.

Just got back myself, saw loads of bikers out (Well, loads more than usual), normally I see 1 other bike at the very most, but today I saw 6! (I know, 6 is nothing, but compared to the usual 0 or 1, it's loads ;p).

Big train of about 20 bikes went through town when I was out earlier. I wanted to tag along. Embarassed They were Cat n Fiddle bound.

Our local roads are in a state of decline and if we get some proper frosts or snow then 18" potholes will be the norm. I must look like I'm drunk when I'm riding into town.

It has been really mild this year, although I live in Cornwall, and we never really get it 'that' bad down here. It's just been a little nippy and a bit wet on the odd occasion.

It's been rather nice, riding around with the chill in the air.

Too right! Was out this morning, about 10 til 12 - flood watching (all the roads are open again now, although there are a few places where the waters are still only a few feet from the verges), and generally trundling around the place. Had a lovely time of it.

Then I came home for a cuppa and to annoy the wife and kids, until they went out and left me on me lonesome. So I went out again, for an hour or so - a teency bit more spirited this time. Which is to say, ultimately not at all spirited - bearing in mind I was on the 125. Laughing

Yeah there are a few absolutely vast potholes round here at the moment - deep, wide and the like of which I've only seen on a Bulgarian motorway previously. It's one thing when there's no water lying around - but when they fill with water, and become indistinguishable from mere puddles, with just an inch of water in - well, that's when it gets particularly nasty. You basically have to avoid *everything* that looks like a puddle, because there's no way of knowing if it's going to be one or eight inches deep.

Agreed. Snow/ice last year was sort of Feb/early March around here if I remember correctly!

Yeah - true that. I did think in the week that we're well overdue for something a bit harsher. Which of course will totally fuck the roads - when they're all soggy underneath the surface, and some long hard frosts kick in. Next thing, the water in the tarmac and hardcore freezes, and then expands, forcing it all apart slightly. Once this has happened a few times - as it probably will by the end of mid March, we'll all have to be riding Kettenkrads:

Err? umm? , I must live in a different reality to you lot?

It`s rained and then it rained and it`s been raining, oh and we`ve had a fair bit of rain.
Also a fair old bit of thick mist and GREASY roads and it`s been cold.
And we`ve had some rain too.

Not the best weather to be out on the bike Crying or Very sad.
While it`s like this I`ll stick to pulling my old Jawa to pieces and shouting at it when things dont go right Laughing

Granted the last week has been better Thumbs Up .

It's been fairly mild. However, the worst snow we had last winter was in February... I nearly got completely stuck in it in the Peak District, my Dad tried to come look for me (not knowing where I was as I had no phone network to say I was running late) and he managed to crash into my brothers van on his driveway haha Laughing Lots of piss taking ensued when I eventually arrived Laughing

Been mostly just wet for me, which is nice ^^ The one single ice day we had I came off >.< Oh well! Future note too not use any small side roads on ice days. Main roads were fine. Smile

This, to be fucking honest.

It might not have been impossible weather to ride in. But for the last month there's not been a day where I actually WANTED to ride instead of taking the car.

Technically, winter only began on Dec. 21/22, so we're only a few weeks in. Plenty of time for it all to go to hell in a handbasket.

Still, I'd agree it hasn't been too bad. I've taken the tube three days in the past few months and only one of those days on account of the weather (freezing fog). I bought a new bike at the what I thought was the worst possible time, at the end of November, but it has worked out fine.
