What was he doing losing control on this road just leaving a 30 zone?
OK it was 'an emergency callout' but road conditions were reasonable and at 7pm there would be a good chance of people walking or cycling.
All that careful training did no good!

Surely it is drummed into them that no matter how urgent the emergency, the last thing anyone wants is for the response to have an accident themselves.

The only acceptable explanation is some sort of catastrophic blow out or mechanical failure which I suppose should not be ruled out at this stage.

I thought the police always kept thier cars & vans in tip top condition?
All thier drivers are highly trained are`nt they? so he could`nt possibly of been going to fast for the circumstances around him could he?

There will be no judgement made in this case, the guys dead, there'll be a quiet enquiry which will find driver error (even if something went wrong with the van) and to all but the friends/family it will be forgotten about.

On the physics side of this topic - I was once on the outside of a blind bend when a police van attending an emergency crossed the solid white line to overtake. I was up on the verge to avoid the collision. 'Enthusiastic' officers often get away with many things us mere mortals cannot.

Which serves to illustrate that they're only human, although giving them special licenses and rules tends to confuse that issue.

Hi

Fair chance that he wasn't response trained, so quite likely no special training at all. Similarly quite possible that he wasn't doing anything dodgy. Sudden reponse to some wildlife on the road for example.

Understandable when they have people in the back in case they go 'crazy', but when they are just cruising around town or responding to an emergency, surely they should have to wear seatbelts.


They do wear seatbelts. The only times they don't really is if they are about to get out quickly.
