Hmm... just because he's good doesn't make him exempt from busking regulations which are based on good sense like not having people to gather potentially obstructing/distracting at a busy thoroughfare.

If they'd happened upon someone being mugged, a bike being stolen or someone shot or stabbed I'm sure they'd have stepped in to deal with that too. Can't just ignore the minor crimes because there's 'more important' crimes being committed.

I often give them a quid or two if there any good, and in my teens I busked a bit with 2 mates
and made a few quid when we were skint, personally I'd rather have someone entertain me
than some beggar making no effort or big issue sellers

Scotland has different rules on busking as far as I know and the cops generally don't hassle you
as long as you behave in a civilised way

Quote:
The law

Under section 54 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, Lothian and Borders Police can ask buskers to stop performing where their performance is disturbing others. If you do not comply, the matter may be referred to the Procurator Fiscal and your equipment seized.
Please do:

Busk only between 9am and 9pm
Play at a considerate volume so passers-by can hear you but nearby businesses and residents are not disturbed
Move onto another pitch at least 50 metres away after two hours
Stop busking if anyone complains about what you are doing, or if asked by a police or council officer

Please don't:

Set up your pitch within 50 metres of another busker
Use amplifiers unless permission has been granted by the Council or Fringe
Spread out equipment or other items that could get in pedestrians way
Busk near doorways or cashpoints
Act or speak aggressively to people asking you to stop
