I have been given a very good part exchange deal on this bike for my 125 Smile

Are Hyosungs any good? I had a ride on a GT125 today and it felt pretty good...it went and felt like a 500...

Believe the frame of most of these can be traced back to the GS500?
Not a great thing for a little bike, to my mind.

If it 'went like a 500' you perhaps need to get a proper ride on a 500 Smile.

GT125s are slow.

They do not go or feel like a 500. Ride a 500.

Yes they are, I had one until it met a tree. Big bike (size not power) and they look really good. Parts are now quite accessible (search Richard hyosung).

Certainly doesn't go like a 500 though! The 250 is quick - more so than the majority of cars but very much middle of the pack at best when it comes to 250cc sports bikes.

I also had a 125 comet (the unfaired version) that didn't feel quick ever. Could just about manage NSL and got up to speed in around the time it takes a Pizza Hut moped to. Great learner bike for those of us with long legs, but don't pretend they're something they're not...

If you can't tell the difference between a 500 and a 125, the 250 probably won't be any better... you need to learn to turn the throttle properly on the bigger bike Smile.

Depends if you like the look of a slightly styled commuter 500 Smile.

Yes, 250s are perfectly competent on motorways, 125s require a lot more planning and can be downright scary on hilly sections.

And G, yes I do like the styling. It was the bike that got the most attention - no one cares about my ducati (other than the noise) but so many people gave me this same conversation:
Them: "What is it? hi-oh-song, never heard of them before"
Them: "Where's it come from? Sounds Korean or Chinese"
Me: "Kor..."
Them: "sounds like hi-un-die, they make good cars now, 7 year warranty - proper quality nowadays, not like it used to be"
Them: "looks pretty though, like one of them ducatis"
Me: "749?"
Them: "yeah, that's it. I used to own a bike you know..."
Me: "gotta be off, missus is waiting"

The 250 seemed nice (felt a bit big for me though!). I was told when I was looking at one, the 06/07 models had a lot of improvements over the 05 < models.

If everyone that said that had actually owned a bike, surely the UK roads would have far more better drivers Neutral

After working on one for a chumrade, I wouldn't touch another with a barge-pole. The newer ones might be OK, but I'd take issue that the parts supply is as good as anything but the sketchiest Ching Chong bikes.

Still, there's not a lot of choice in the 250 market, and they are proper bike sized: the GT125 actually felt bigger than my GPZ500 from the saddle. Get a good 'un, enjoy it, get rid of it before you have to spend any money on it.

Someone from my school rides the 125 and my first impression was confusion as to how he can ride a 600 with L plates.

Great size bike but I really don't like the look. Front end looks a bit like a gsxr and back end a bit like a cbr!

Plus I really don't like the stickers as they look a bit cheap - but for someone on a 33bhp licence I think it's a good sized bike, they come with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty too

Well, you're wrong about parts - https://www.richardhyosunggvgt.com/ has nearly everything available. Even ebay's full of parts nowadays.

Also, there are plenty of ways round the anti tamper bolts. Even my missus was drilling out rivets the other day (not really a good example - she's a better handyman than I am and I built a car last week!, but you get the point...)

The GT250R is a lovely little bike. Had one for a year just after doing my test and didn't have a single problem, it's fast enough to outpace most things on the road (except other bikes >250 of course!)

They get a lot of stick, mostly because of people's prejudices towards Korean bikes, and a few years ago this was a justified prejudice. But they have got a lot better in the last few years and the one I had (56) only set me back £1300 and was one of the most reliable bikes I've ever owned.

I've had the 2009 efi 250 GTR for about a year now, its been reliable, although I'm suffering dead battery problems at the moment, more to do with my tardy maintenance attitude than the bike i think, lol

it pulls pretty well and will outpace most cars from 0 to 60 (7 seconds claimed in owners book i think), handles motorways / Dual Carriageways a treat and feels very planted on the road compared to the YBR125 i had before. Accelerates well up to around 100 mph, top speed claimed to be 110 i think.

between 70 to 90 mpg depending on roads and riding style, so pretty good on fuel.

As said earlier, all parts are now available to order online with more turning up on ebay all the time.

I was adamant i wanted a 250 and out of the ones in my price range, the Hyosung seemed to stand out. I've only ever had admiring glances and comments from people about it.

It makes riding to work a pleasure and weekend trips into the mountains are the stuff dreams are made of! ha ha Very Happy

I can say that with my hand on my heart.

On a private road of course, I can get 90mph (indicated) any day of the week

I once had 103 indicated (on a private road of course).

As for accelerating? more like ? : accelerating up to 80mph and then after that building up to top speed .

Well, according to what I find on the web the GT250R has 28/30bhp, meaning 100mph isn't outside the realm of possibility and when you assume a 10% speedo error at maximum speed that would put the speed of the bike at 90-95mph with a speedo speed of 100-105mph, that's absolutely possible with a good tailwind and downhill I imagine.

Although I expect the "real" speed is more than likely 80-90mph at absolute maximum on the flat.

Whether it would accelerated "well" up to that speed is another matter and depends on your definition of "well". Laughing.

Cheers! Thumbs Up.

That's your opinion and probably one of someone who's never ridden the 250 gtr, whereas I am quoting from my personal experiences.

Highest I had indicated was 105, it would have crept up more but that was fast enough for me. That was on a very slight down hill. Getting 95 indicated is never a problem, mine does that easily.
Of course this was at an airfield as I would never break the speed limit.

87mph as a top speed is a joke, not sure where you got that but I'd double check that if I where you.

And what other bikes have you experienced to compare when you describe 'accelerates well up to around 100 mph'?
I'd say, for instance, an RS250 'accelerates ok up to 100mph', but not 'well'.
A modern 600, 'well', maybe; a litre bike, certainly.

Your second link says 149kph.

Somebody has put 109mph into wikipedia https://www.adiumxtras.com/images/thumbs/troll_icons_2_28891_7697_thumb.png.
