More insurance prices...

Dispatches did a good explanation into how insurance companies operate:

It explains in simple terms how they can make a loss on selling premiums to justify increasing premiums and then cream profits off elsewhere. Their dodgy tactics force everyone in the industry to follow suit.

I'd like to see insurance nationalised and insurance to be truly social and non-profit - standard premiums for everyone with the only thing to affect it being a no claims discount.

Havn't watched the programme, but a couple of thoughts re insurance.

I think Canada had or has a "nationalised" insurance scheme, problem there is that it puts the government in charge of the price of insurance. As they don't like bikes the price of bike insurance goes through the roof and you cant go anywhere else for your insurance......

My Dad lives in Malaysia (Borneo). Over there the legislation dictates that the insurance companies all must charge the same for the same insurance. You make your choice of insurance company simply on who you think provides you with the best service.....
