I don't know if they do the hi-temp stuff but the DIY places, like B&Q do that stuff.

Some types of the Plasti-Kote are good up to quite a high temperature - it'll say on the back of the can. I bought some from B&Q and used it on my crankcase and it's been OK. ____________________ My Old CBR400RR | Bike Oil FAQ | Petrol FAQ |

You can get it in Autoworld they stock it and any motorfactors that stock "Holts" Products can order it in for you.
I know if 2 places in Merseyside that stock it...
1. Autoworld - Aintree
2.Culmac - Walton
It is made by a company related to Holts, so thats how I know you can get it there |

The other thing you can also get in most places is SPUREX this is 100 times better then plasti-kote as it does not chip or scratch off like plasti-kote does. |

Tried it today, yeah.
Sanded down the exhaust system after spending a good half hour getting it off the bike. Sanded it down with some 100 grade sandpaper(could find any 60) and then used a wire briush drill bit on an electric drill to take most of the surface rust off. Then put masking tape over the steel part of the exhaust to protect it from any paint
Applied 6 coats overall, over a period of about 4.5 hours, allowing them to dry inbetween. The stuff's alright, yeah, I expected it to be a bit more heavy on the first coating but the black really came through on the 3rd coating and then more so on the 5th.
Reattached it and started it up. Not knowing the torque settings for the screws at the engine block, they did need tightened as fumes were pouring out of it at the start of the exhaust. But a quick tighten sorted that out, and it all looks good. Whether it holds up is another matter, but aesthetically, it looks much better.
Cheers for the recommendation and to everyone else who replied. |
