I regret to inform you all that I killed a pigeon today.

Whilst travelling along the A3 from Guilford to London I spotted a pigeon on the ground in the middle of my lane. I took evasive action, but the pigeon then proceeded to fly straight into my new path and I felt it hit my right boot/brake pedal. I do not know where I hit it, but I suspect it is a gonna.

R.I.P.

P.S. has anyone had one of them fuckers hit your helmet? That would surely cause a crash!?

Yes, at 25mph, no crash at that speed, but a fair wallop to the head.

I can imagine. I was doing 65 mph on the A3 so I think if it hit my head the impact might have been a big one. Laughing

I've done a pigeon to the shoulder at 80mph and it was like getting punched, hard. It bruised and I had loads of layers on.

If it had hit in the visor area it would've given me a serious problem. I now automatically duck my head down and to the side for swooping birds. Before I just used to keep my head pointed forwards and close my eyes.

Not a pigeon but hit a bird years ago, had just come out of a 40 limit and started accelerating up a hill going to work, got to about 60 and dropped my visor whilst still accelerating and literally seconds after I had a bird hit my visor, was just at the top of the hill when it happened and would have been between 65-75mph, amazingly the visor didn't brake but the impact was immense, jolted my head back and naturally shocked me and to top it off I had to stop immediately as the mass of blood, guts and feathers scattered across the visor somewhat obscured my vision, my only thoughts were -thank god I dropped my visor, -that could have been dangerous and -I aren't fucking touching that. Ended up pulling visor off and leaving it at the roadside. I can only imagine the force of a pigeon being about 5 times as much.

Don't have any pigeons on my name yet, but I went over a squirrel once.

If an owl did that I would be complaining to the manufacturers about the quality of the visor.

Only ever hit anything in the car.... I did have a pigeon stuck through the front grill of my fiesta years ago (hit about 70mph), when I got to the end of my journey it was stuck in a spirit of ecstasy type pose.

As for the owl hitting the visor, that just brought back memories of mythbusters chicken gun.... OK they were firing them at 140mph and they went straight through the plane screens as if they weren't there..... Which I'm sure Mark would probably have been travelling around that speed anyway Razz

My Mrs hit a large bird, we believe it was a buzzard in her old Fiesta (Mk3)

Hit it square on the nose of the car (where the badge is) even thought its a corner and reinforced it left a fist sized indent, and a nice trail of feathers and juices up and over the car,

Just glad it hit the body work and didn’t shatter the windscreen but definitely not something i want to hit on the bike, it’s not something I’d really contemplated till this morning :p

Hit a deer at 40 and it did less damage than that!

The pigeon must have been feeling suicidal sitting in the middle of the A3.

I've done a pheasant at 80-odd. It destroyed my speedo/rev counter and left a large bruise to my collarbone.

I stopped to pick it up and eat it, but it was all floppy and warm.

when wearing an open face helmet.

I'll never eat a kfc on the move again.

Took a pigeon to the chest in a 50 zone. Feathers everywhere!

A bit of advice I gave my missus when she first started driving - do not under any circumstances swerve to avoid an animal that won't cause significant damage to the vehicle.

Had a pheasant in the side of the head at about 50mph. I wobbled a bit but the missus was closer to coming off her bike laughing at me from behind.

Smashed a bird so hard that I was left with blood all over my helmet.

Nothing on the bike yet though.

What species of bird were you expecting?

Be careful, 2 days after I twatted a pigeon with my shoulder at about 45-50, some bint pulled out on me and wrote off the ZXR. Karma at it's finest eh? Especially when waiting around for old bill, the roof of the house opposite was covered with pigeon's observing their handiwork.
