Gosh that is an awful lot of money from parking fees! Shocked I wonder how much of that is from motorbikes?

Also wonder if they will rise motorbike fees.

I used to work on Regent Street, parked in bike bay by Carnaby Street. £1 a day builds up over time..

Now I'm round the back of Oxford Street next to Cavendish Square and my office building has free underground parking for bikes Cool

Councils who use the cash to subsidise their spending and local taxpayers are acting illegally. But a loophole does allow local authorities to use the surplus to pay for other transport profits.

Not in practice. Thanks to the cack-handed failed legal challenge mounted by the No To Bike Parking Tax brigade, the Court of Appeal has held that Councils can do essentially whatever they want with parking charges, and spend it anywhere that they like.

All they have to do is to claim that the primary purpose is traffic management. They don't have to provide a shred of evidence that there was a problem, or that the charge is helping it, or that they're spending the profits (and they can budget for as much profit as they like) on transport.

It's essentially a market driven free-for-all at this point: they can squeeze until the pips squeak.

Surely the quickest way to kill this off would be for everyone that gets a ticket to challenge it. The volume of paperwork alone would crush the council.

I pay £100 a year, much cheaper & easier than paying a daily/weekly fee.

That sounds fair. My Regent Street was only weekends, but now I'm full-time with free parking so win Thumbs Up
