Over network via samba.
apparently the overheads with smb are a killer and NFS is recommended but M$ thought it would be a good idea to not include a NFS server in W7
And trying to get a NFS server running is a ballache.... |

ahh I see.
Have you tried putting one of the files on a USB drive to confirm it is the overhead?
NFS win 7

Are you using RaspBMC or Openelec?
I have run all manner of files from a firewire drive into my mac and installed Twonkymedia server to host it.
It also picks up the shares no issue. Had a couple of MKVs with some artifacts but they sorted themselves out. ____________________ VFR FI 2000- Shiney Red Thing

Yeah, that's way way way too high, you could play that back in a small cinema! Just re-encode in 10-12Mbps VBR for video, and 192Kbps CBR per channel for audio. Should playback fine if the receiver is decoding. |

I could re-encode it but that sort of defeats the purpose of "trying to get the r-pi to work with the film".
Semi sorted it though.
O/C'd the rpi to 1ghz (heatsinks were bought a few days ago)
Pissed about with haneWin NFS, and watch the entire film without a hitch.
The next problem i have encountered is:-
I have my nas which shares folders over smb which I want to mount on the NFS server.
Thats fine, sorted, not a problem.
\\nipplebiscuits\xbmc\telly -public -name:telly
raspbmc sees the shares and the files, but wait 0kb for each file?

You've also got to remember that the Pis NIC is really just a USB device, don't expect much from it.
Good info here |
