Engine Typetwo-stroke, two-cylinder in 90° V formation, liquid cooled, lamellar intake in the casing. Sequential two-stage valve on the exhaust, electronically managed by a digital control unit and controlled by a "step-by-step" motor.

Carburettors (2)Mikuni TM 34 SS with flat valve, with electronic management by electrovalves that section the maximum air passages and the idling circuits.

Ignition CDI digital, with advance mapping programmed on three perameters (opening of carburettors valves, opening speed, engine running speed)

Start kick starter

Gearbox 6 speeds, entirely extractable. Forced lubrication with a volumetric pump.

Clutch multiple discs in an oil bath.

Frame inclined double beam in an alloy of alluminium and magnesium, with thin wall shell structure. Sleeve and side plates cast in an alloy of alluminium and magnesium.

Suspensionsfront fork with upside-down rods in high resistance steel, Ø 40 mm, with adjustable extension and compression. Wheel bump position 120 mm.
rear swinging rear fork in alloy of alluminium and magnesium, with arms with differentiated design. Single shock-absorber with separate tank, adjustable extension, compression and spring preloading. Wheel bump position 130 mm.

Brakesfront brake with double floating disc, Ø 298 mm, caliper with 4 positions with differentiated diameter rear brake with single disc, Ø 220 mm

Rimsin alluminium alloy, with 5 tangential spokes. Front 3.00 x 17"; rear 4.50 x 17"

Tyres radial tubeless; front: 110/70 ZR 17"; rear: 150/60 ZR 17"

Have a read over this page on bikez.com for the spec believe it is pretty much the same for all years but you can see the exact spec for the other years by just going to the appropriate year RS250 link on the Aprilia page.

Personal views on it, it's a nice little 250 two stroke, if you're after something of a small capacity which can be thrahed on the roads without being at daft speed (well less so than on a litre bike Mr. Green), there are people on here who have them so will be able to say much more about it. What are you considering getting on and using it for?

You can get off the line quite fast, but you /have/ to slip the clutch from around 11,000rpm and keep it slipping until your speed catches up.

I raced a 2000 model (some pix on the link below). Perfect for use on track, although I would never buy one for the road.

My RG goes like stink once you get into the band, but it looses a hell of alot of time getting tot he powerband in 1st, but this ir probably because of the knackerd powervalves :<
