https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01pvbyr/Parking_Mad/

Anybody see this? There's a documentary on iPlayer at the moment about parking battles in UK cities, one of the segments was about the No 2 Mob motorbikers following CCTV cars and warning motorists about them...

Thought it was a bit sad at first, with all their radio nicknames and stuff, until the bit where they prevented the council from collecting over £10,000 in enforcement revenue, in just seven hours by stopping cars from driving down a road where the exits had been turned into bus lanes with cameras to catch cars driving in them...

IDK, Once you get past all the silly codename bs, they're actually doing something pretty decent.

I, too, have to laugh when people hide behind pseudo-names.
All the best,

Hats off to them, but I'm not sure why they've taken it upon themselves to spend their days following camera cars around. I wouldn't have the time if I wanted to!

I always make sure I park carefully and I check signs. If I get a parking ticket, it's my own silly fault. If people don't see the signs, it shouldn't be up to a load of well-meaning bikers to warn them.

I felt a bit bad for the old chap losing his house, but once again he obviously has too much time on his hands, wilfully going out and trying to get a parking ticket just so he can take it to tribunal? Sadly it backfired spectacularly.

Despite the fact that it may not have been signed correctly?

It's not about parking any more though. The big money is in "moving violations". Councils are learning to maximise that by deliberately shunting drivers into situations where the obvious or safe route is prohibited by misleading, obfuscated or just plain inadequate signage, then racking up hundreds of penalties a day per junction or lane.

https://ccjm.dnsd.me/lane-vanishes.jpg

It's got absolutely sod all to do with traffic management or road safety, it's a raw, cynical revenue grab by deception. And it's the hypocrisy that's the worst, with the bare faced lies about "visible deterrents" (hidden periscope cars) and "100% compliance without penalties" (fix the bloody signs then).

Fair play to the No 2 Mob, they're having fun, they're out on their bikes, they're helping people obey the law, and they're aggravating grasping toerags while they're doing it.

I particularly like that when they started doing it, the spyscum would run to the police and bawwww that they didn't like being watched, it was totally against their human rights to privacy, innit. Very Happy

Councils love illegal yellow box junctions:

This one I remember.

Well whatcha expect! Somebody's got to pay for the council pensions! And bricks and mortar stores dropping like flies (Jessops) fewer companies are paying business rates as well.

If everybody did x10 the value of the fine in damage to council property the scum would soon stop. The french are masters at exactly that and it's worked for them.

Unfortunately the UK is a nation of broken-spirited cowards.

As eluded to above, it is about revenue raising, not enforcing the law, traffic management or helping kittens.

The infamous Southampton Row in Camden is worth £1.2 million pounds a year to the council. Oooh look at all dem naughty motorists one might be misled in to thinking. However the vast majority of those with the cajones to take it to PATAS rather than cave in and pay up are found to be in the right.

https://www.patasregistersofappeals.org.uk/StatReg/case.aspx?caseref=2110125695

Quote:
The issue in this case is whether Mr Thornton's bike crossed the bus lane in Southampton Row in order to get to a road adjacent to the bus lane.

The local authority argues that the contravention occurred because Mr Thornton drove into the bus lane before the dotted white line that can be seen in the CCTV footage. The local authority states that the road markings indicate where a vehicle is able to turn left and that a driver must stay in the unrestricted lane until there is a full break or dotted white line in the bus lane road markings. The local authority states that Mr Thornton's vehicle enters the bus lane well in advance of the left turning.

The Traffic Management Order states that bus lane controls do not apply in respect of -'a vehicle crossing a bus lane in order to get to or from any road adjacent to the bus lane or any vehicular access to premises adjacent to the bus lane' There is nothing in the Traffic Management Order that states that a vehicle may only cross into the bus lane where there is a break in the bus lane road markings or where there is a dotted white line.

I have seen the CCTV evidence. It is clear that Mr Thornton's drives into the bus lane before the dotted white line. I have seen no evidence to show how long before the dotted line Mr Thornton crossed into the bus lane. I find that the footage shows that Mr Thornton crosses into the bus lane and travels in what I find to be a diagonal line across the bus lane before stopping at the traffic lights. I am satisfied having seen the footage and heard Mr Thornton's evidence the exemption contained in the Traffic Management Order applies.

I allow this appeal.

Yet Scamden still issue thousands of tickets every year at this junction and thousands of mugs are fleeced and pay up.
