So I got myself a cheapo Vivitar bullet cam. It's got a standard camera mounting thread on it and comes with a couple of mounts.

https://www.vivitar.com/products/2/digital-video-recorders/908/dvr-480

So what's the best way to fix a mount more or less permanently to a full face Caberg lid without causing any significant weakening?

Needless to say the supplied mounts all have flat bases so I'm thinking of making a curved mount base and glueing it on?

I take it the camera can be removed from the mount, leaving the mount in place?

If that is the case, what about making the base curved and then Superglue? the base in place?

Trouble with glue is that you have to be sure the angle is correct. I drilled a small hole in the helmet shell and inserted a bolt through the mouint to inside. That way you have some rotation and can remove it when not in use and cover hole with a small bit of tape. If you glue make sure you sandpaper the helmet surface well for a key.

I used 3M Dual Lock tape on my Caberg Konda and the curved mount from my Drift camera pack. The Dual Lock stuff is very solid, and the glue on the tape is pretty hefty too. An advantage of using dual lock is you can make small adjustments to the angle easily enough without having the pressure of getting it 100% right first go.

If I knew for certain that it was to be permanent, I'd probably go with heavy duty external mounting tape.

I wouldn't go with a brittle glue like superglue. IMO you need something slightly elastic to dampen vibration, also helmets flex when pulling them on and off, and also in the wind. My C3 flexes enough with my head sideways at 70+ that it pops open the visor.

Actually there's lots of holes in helmets for vents etc. Mine was an old cheap one which I just use for the camera. Would I drill my Shoei XR1100 ? Thumbs Down

3M Dual Lock - it's like Velco on steroids.

Might be able to get it cheaper but here's some https://dogcamsport.co.uk/hd-max-3m-pad.html

edit Found some cheaper https://pointofviewcameras.co.uk/3m-dual-lock-reclosable-fastener-1inch.html

I tried 3M dual lock.

It's very strong stuff, BUT because it's so strong, found that it tends to pull the self-adhesive backing away from whatever you've stuck it to.

That's why you don't try and pull the object off whatever you've stuck it to. You separate the two sides of the velcroy parts instead. Helps if you leave a little overhang, offsetting it a bit so you get front/back overhang and up down overhang. (Might not be explaining this very well).

No, good point, it probably is all down to technique.

Why not? My helmet shells are covered in holes. Vents, visor pivots, and that massive one in the middle that you look through.

It's the polystyrene inside that'll save you, not the shell.

Putting a little M4 bolt through, at cheek height, OH NOES!!!!eleven!!! If that bothers you, you must be shitting a brick about the prospect of the visor hinges being driven into your temples.

The shell spreads the load, particularly for sharper objects you may hit on the way down.

I wouldn't drill my helmet. Wouldn't be sure I'd get a clean enough cut that didn't have any stress concentrators.

Probably a drilled helmet is not ideal. Neither is one which may come off and lodge somewhere nasty or distract the rider while he turns his head to get a good shot sideways or spurs him to ride too fast to show the rev counter on the movie to impress his mates. All risk factors. Probably riding without a camera is safest but not so much fun! I think the OP has some good suggestions here to help secure his camera. Of course the camera does not have to be helmet mounted although it often gives the most dynamic view. Sometimes if you are editing your video, a combination of angles varies the movie. Here's one I shot recently with camera mounted on the fairing - at the time I was trying out the external microphone under the seat to remove wind noise:

Different views mixed together on the storyboard could work well. Have fun with your movies guys!

I bought the DogCamSports Bullet camera some time ago - and I'm more than happy with the performance of the camera...

However, I originally tried a couple of different mounting options... I even paid extra for some suction mountings, but found them to be quite cumbersome, and didn't feel particularly secure to be honest.

I eventually used their included bracket that offers the option of zip tie, velcro, or adhesive pad to mount it. And since I can keep the mount fitted to the lid, but still remove the camera if needed, I went with a double sided 3M adhesive pad to fit it. Thumbs Up
(I also have a DIY made bracket that can be fitted to the front forks as an alternative, but I tend to prefer the helmet mounted option, considering I bought the camera as a safety feature)

I have the same one and am either going to shim the bottom of the camera to bring it out or mount it on my master cylinder.

It is a nice camera for < £30 but does require a little creativity to get the image upright.

How about on top of the lid? I have a built-in sun visor so can't on mine, otherwise it would be going there.
