Not the greatest of photos but there you go.

SV650S K6 but 2007 registered. 11,000 miles and great condition as you would expect. There are a few niggles, looks like the previous owner had to negotiate a tight turn as there are a couple of scrapes (very small and shallow) on the edge of the bikini fairing that will touch up just fine. Also the paint on the water pump cover has started to bubble a bit (although its not yet cracked). If anyone knows of a good match PLEASE LET ME KNOW before I paint it satin black to match the frame.

Only plans for the bike at the moment is to touch up the fairing, respray the water pump cover, fit crash bungs and frame protectors? (not sure what you would call these):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271124495581?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Then get it as clean as possible and try to keep it that way as its my commuter!

Someone may come along and burst my bubble but I think I got a good deal at £2200.

1) Can, needs more noise.

If it's not had it's 11K service it's just oil+filter+Air filter... I don't really miss mine but only because my legs were too cramped on the thing.

Valve clearances are on the next one, iirc that's about 15K miles. Main dealer charged me £160 ish to do that one and it didn't need any adjusting.

It's not a step back, it's a big jump back Smile

Don't take me wrong, a 600cc in-line four would be always superior to a 650 twin and I'm not afraid to tell you, even in comparison with a 1000cc twin. Cool

Depends what you like.
I'm preferring the twin and never really wanted an IL4, it was just cheap at the time and cheap to insure. I prefer the grunt of the v twin, never much liked revving the hell out of the bandit to get it to go anywhere. I suppose its each to their own though and respect your opinion, just dosent tie in with mine!

In every other way it is much better though. Fuel injected, better brakes, lighter, better looking, better condition, more in the way of equipment etc.

Loving having a clock too! It's the little things ey!

It is a wheezy V twin though. It has no real thump.

If it is the twin factor you enjoy, a TL1000R can be had for <£2000 if you look hard, insurance in pittance too.

Never liked my Bandit, never liked my SV. Would give my left bollock for a TL.

I did consider the sv1000 but as my bike is primarily cheap transport I couldn't really justify the increased insurance, fuel, tyres, chain and sprockets etc. I'm not really financially in a position for more than one bike either so need a do it all.

Looks fantastic, really nice condition. Don't know which year they changed to a more pointy / sharp look compared to the original, but I definitely prefer it.

They sound good too.

Well, in the end it's you and your bike, so if you like it, then it's alright, I think Smile

And the SV1000 is a big overpriced disappointment, my mate had one, over 10 liters of petrol per 60 miles, he was a ''scared trourist'' with ''dusty rev counter'', the bike never went flat out Doh!

If you want a real twin later on, discount the SV. You'll want one of the tasty Italians or thundering Japs, not Grandpa Joe 1000 Thumbs Up

If you want economy, why did you get a bigger cc bike? My cheap transport for my 60 mile round trip on motorways is the 125, looks like I'll never need to replace the tyres, cost piss all to run, insurance owe me money and it does 70.

Can't ask for much more Thumbs Up

I like the noise mine makes, but I seriously can't wait to get an IL4 back. But hey, that's just me.

Your bike does look very clean, but needs more noise.

Doesn't matter what people think, looks cool as fuck. I had a go on one and found the delivery quite flat, but looked down and was at 90mph before I knew it.

Get another can for it though, unleash the noise. Thumbs Up

The first bike I bought new was an SV650S, I had it for 2 years, two track days, one euro trip and 25,000 miles before selling it far too cheap. Twas a pretty awesome all rounder really, and a total piece of piss to work on too.
I also enjoyed getting 210 miles to the tank, in contrast to the 130 miles i get from my Firestorm now Crying or Very sad

Tis a nice bike.

I've had both the 650 and the 1000, the 650 is nicer to ride.

The 1000 was lumpy around town and a chore, sold it after short while. Sounded wonderful with a full scorpion system.

Whilst I didn't get on with it I would hesitate to call it a Grandad bike, bone stock they will run sub 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile @ over 120mph and there have been examples of mostly stock motored bikes with extended swingarms running in the 9s, which is Hyabusa territory. The main issue in getting them off the line is the grabby hydraulic clutch and the enjoyable tendancy to power wheely in 1st and 2nd. I found it will also headshake when it comes back down.

Part of all this grunt is the fact it has the TLS motor in it, from one of the thundering japs you were mentioning... Wink FYI, stock for stock, there is roughly 10hp difference at the rear wheel between the TLR 1000 and the SV 1000, Most dynos have the SV slightly stronger on peak torque and with a flatter curve... The SV 1000 is also a lighter bike than the TLR 1000, by around 20kg. In terms of pure acceleration, they are pretty much neck and neck.

And as for the Italian twins... Pfft. All show, no go.

As I mentioned, I cant afford two bikes right now, Ive just got a mortgage! I needed a 'do it all' bike and hopefully this will be a good all round commuter come tourer come Sunday morning blast bike. I tried a 250 as a cheap as piss bike to run and we didn't get on, just not enough power for my mainly dual carriageway commute. I also frequently get sent to seminars and courses which involves motorway jaunts.

Hence the 650! Like i say if I had a bike purely for fun I would go bigger. I really cant see why you would need anything bigger than a 650 for the riding I do and defy anyone that says so, It's plenty fast.

The only thing you need to do is change the can, as the original is HUGE. The noise is nice too.

Even a small motorcycle can win a big race Thumbs Up Cool

About the displacement, I am of the same opinion, but when I see other mates with their bikes around 1000cc, how reliable they are, because they use like 30% of the power mostly and my bike needs care because I give it 100% and sometimes it even feels like 110%, I understand why bigger means better. Their bikes have the same and even better fuel economy than my NC27 + if you want you can get through the sound barrier on these liter bikes Smile .

I went from a Bandit 1200 to an SV650 mainly for lower running costs but it was just too boring. Rolling Eyes
Just watch you don't run out of grunt in any ambitious overtaking.
You are now one of the slowest 'big' bikes on the road.

On the plus side the V Twin is good on fuel and sounds nice even with standard cans.

Yes, well comparing a brand new £15k-£25k bike with a decade plus old one that can be picked up for under £2k is obviously fair. Ducati's of around the svthou's time (early 2000s) are weak.

Quote:
Tuono. Factory.

Arse clench

Also relatively weak, no different from the TLR or even the SV. 115hp-120hp at the wheel, and that's with a can. The modern V4 one, now that's a bit more like it. Seperating the Tuono and Factory with a full stop doesn't make it any faster or make the factory anymore than a pair of bullshit mass produced Ohlins forks and a poor quality run of cheapo Brembo calipers Wink

You want a big, fast old tech (1125CR is a relatively new bike, but uses an old style V-twin made by Rotax) twin then you get one of these:

https://img9.imageshack.us/img9/4971/buell1125cr093.jpg

They WILL scare the shit out of you. Will run low 10s stock, 130+ rwhp with a torque plateau so big that you could balance the planet on it. Combined with a wet weight of under 200kg with an exhaust swap and they are a weapon, if a tad unreliable. Laughing They will leave any bike mentioned in this thread so far for dead, apart from the Panigale. I'm lucky enough to have had a ride on one, and they are a different world from stuff like the TLR.
