new to Android, been on blackberry for over 6 years
but finally I've moved over to the Galaxy S3 and looking for some app advice preferably free app's Wink

I want a guitar app that will do tuning and show chord variations etc

QR / bar code reader

good txt app that has decent smilies (don't like the little alien samsung ones)

I'm not big on installing app's for the hell of it but i'm open to suggestions
bear in mind I travel a lot so tube maps / timetables etc
also a good media player

also any tips & tricks in configuring them to make life easy

I did the usual searches on google but prefer first hand advice on these type of things

gStrings - this is the guitar tuner app. (i'm serious)

Barcode Scanner - yep you guessed it

I've found the default samsung text app pretty good. other than that you have go messenger, tried that and liked that.

evernote - great for syncing notes between web browser and phone

mx player - great video player

poweramp is probably the best music player, lots of options, paid for though. never had any real issues with the stock google one or winamp though as have a dedicated music player (cowon j3) for real mobile listening.

aldiko - great ebook reader

Gtasks - nice task list app with nice widget too

Start playing around with widgets. They are the feature that is missing from iOS. really do make the android experience top notch
