PostPosted: 14:36 - 27 Dec 2012    Post subject: Europe trip for 2013? Reply with quote

Hi all, currently considering a bike trip for the summer after having done the Indian himalayas the summer just gone. I'm wanting to do a bike trip throughout europe for around a month? I was originally looking at going with a group with one of these tour websites but the pricings seem ridiculously high as im on a budget and want to mainly camp. Does anyone know where I can find some good route ideas with maps or even a group thats doing this this summer. Thanks for the help.

Just quickly, I'm heading to Spain on my bike with some guys from here, I intend to camp because I am one cheap son of a bitch.

My budget is ~£500 for fuel over 10 days. Over budget but keep it higher than average.
£200 for food.
£100 for spare stuff just incase. So £800 with an additional £240 being the ferry.

Thats my kinda budget right there! Considering I did 2 weeks in India, including flights and bike rental for only £1500

Also, what bike are you doing that on? I currently have a ZX7R however can't see that being ideal! Was thinking of buying something dirt cheap with good MPG.

Delhi-Manili-Leh. hah well me and my mate went there with no plans at all, no bike hire or hotels. I.e Landed at the airport at 3am and asked the taxi to take us to a hotel, naturally we got ripped off the first night!

I'm using a Bandit 400/ ZX6R / CBR600RR depending on bike at the time.

Ideally though, a KTM 690 would be good.

If you want dirt cheap and good MPG, would you consider a 125? I would trust my Vara to take me round the world Thumbs Up

I would but couldn't imagine a 125 handling the motorway very well? Wouldn't it be max'd out and eventually blow. I used to own a Honda CG125 that was bulletproof but couldn't imagine it getting to 70! Also how would it fair with luggage.

My bike sits at 70/75 every single day on a motorway. It has 70,900 miles on it currently and is on the original engine which is very close to the original spec of a fresh engine compression wise.

Still smooth as it should be too.

Agreed, i thought it was supposed to be cheap! Not more expensive than getting a plane and a hotel booked up. Laughing

hoping to do a belgium/spain trip on about £600. For a few days.

Whats the point of touring if you can't ride.

I have some routing blogs of rides I have completed in europe at www.whereistonynow.co.uk which might give you some ideas,

I also have some routes at www.motomassif.info wich may be of interest though mainly France...

failing that i have found bestbikingroads.com very good for routes

Ride safe.

£500 for fuel for 10 days is absurd.

That's pretty much two 18/19l tank fulls every day of your 10 days.

Most bikes will do about 160-200miles from full to dry, so you're talking about doing close to 4,000 or 400 miles per day.

Plus you're getting the ferry so Spain. I can't see how you're going to manage to do that much riding.

£300 for fuel should be plenty. Save the rest for cerveza

600rr will only do 120 ish to a full tank so his estimates wont be a million miles away(if he takes the RR). You could probably get more if you treat it like a glass slipper and just use motorways but wheres the fun in that.

Just sounds like a lot on fuel for such a short time. Don't think I've managed to spend that much on fuel in a two week trip. Mind you I haven't toured on the Falco yet. Sad
