.
The Chinese bikes that is.?

I see and hear a lot about Chinese bikes but I seldom see one.! - Really I don't. Since I started riding a bike I always nosey at what another bike is be it parked, overtaken or going the other way. (speed permitting ID)

But in the last 12 months I have only seen about 6 of the infamous rascals.

It cannot be geographical and there is a dealer for them in Warrington where I live. I just very seldom see one. Shocked

This is meant as a serious question and not a 'lets bash the Chink bikes that have the metallurgy of a road kill hedgehog.'

Is this just me that fails to see them.? Does anyone know the numbers of them sold in the UK in the last few years.?

Regards, Curious from Warrington.

Just you. I own a Jianshe and there are a lot of the Huoniao HN125 cruiser things around here I see quite a few on my commute. There is a Lexmoto dealer down the road and a couple of other dealers in Pompey for Sukida and the like.

You probably just haven't recognised them, we're past the middle of winter, most of them probably look roughly like this by now

They are all under tarps with terminal rust, collapsed wheel bearings, snapped frames and loads of other maladies that don't affect Japanese bikes.

Perhaps they are being used to refill old open cast mines. The chink bikes have less value than gravel and waste rock so are a cheaper fill.

Perhaps all their owners are busy trying to find a garage / mechanic who is prepared to try and fix them.

The previous owner of my Lifan had debadged it and very neatly applied "YAMAHA" decals.

It is a nut-and-bolt copy of the Virago, you really wouldn't know.

I mean, except for the exhaust blowing through after two UK winters.

I've seen a few HNs and Jinluns tooling around, but you'd really want to look where poor people cluster together, like community colleges and chavvy retail parks.

Unless there's a trained eye I think the clones are quite good - as clones, not necessarily good bikes

I see quite a few. Incidentally when I had my old Chinese bike I went to a site that told you how many of your model are on the road (and how many were registered in the past few years). There were hundreds of my model registered in 2006 - 2008 but are less than 20 on the road now. That tells you a lot!

To be honest I tried that site a while back and it said there were something like 5 RXS100s on the road. Take it with a mountain of salt.

considering how much my Sukida looks like a Suzuki GN125, even down to identical piping on the tank and side panels, you probably see a fair few and don't notice.
...and for the record, mine is 6 years old and has superficial rust on a couple of bolt heads, it's called taking care of things. Rolling Eyes

They're just an urban myth to scare you into taking care of your bike through the depths of winter Wink

I'm in Warrington too, and maybe there are alot of Chinese bikes around and I don't notice. It's not like the Chinese companies make any decent sized bikes, and TBH all Chicken-Chasers look alike to me.
Also curious as to where "Chopsticks" chippy is. Wherever it is, it can't be a patch on "The Big Blue" on Knutsford Rd. In fact, this has made me hungry and I might nip out there.

I see a couple of HN's on a regular basis.

To be honest though, its taken about 2 years to actually see a CBF-125 too.

Occasionally see my old 1997 CG-125 (front drum).

Must admit, I fell for the sales garbage on my bike.
"I sell loads of these mate, supply the local training school"
This did fit in with another training school that was selling a couple.

In reality, I haven't seen another in 18mths. Until October 2012. My license plate is AB11 123. I was in my dads car in Farnborough and we are behind a another AJS JS125. Licence plate AB11 124. Smile
I tried to get a photo, but he sped off and out-ran us Cool

This site gives some interesting stats on numbers of bikes.
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/

Looks like AJS are selling roughly 90/month in the whole of UK. Not exactly flooding our roads with them. And kind of begs the question of my dealer, how many does he consider to be "loads". By these figures, about 2. Shame he didn't charge me "loads" on that basis...

Suzuki and Kawasaki have been getting by on a couple of hundred a month. It's not a big industry.

But Honda are, according to that site, selling 1k/month.....Having said that, if you asked AJS 5 years ago that would they be happy to sell 10% of the volume of a 125cc bike compared to Honda, they would probably have bitten your arm off.
