Nothing amazing compared to what some of you do, basically just went for one night from south Leicestershire up to Buxton to enjoy some of the hilly, twisty roads and see how the Virago copes with the whole camping experience.

Didnt take any pics until i was going along Ashbourne road on route to the camp site, the tank bag i got was a life saver:

https://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2050/sv206817.jpg

Arrived at camp site at about 5pm, i say camp site, it was basically a field, but it was 3 quid a night so i didnt mind.:

Went out for a ride to get some food and drink, then just crashed out (was knackered anyway)

Next day i went to Whaley bridge, stopped off a couple of times for pics:

https://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2174/sv206854.jpg

Then some reservoir (forgot the name lol):

https://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7356/sv206859.jpg
https://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1316/sv206860.jpg

Then lastly put the cat and fiddle in the sat nav, went on some narrow but awesome hilly roads and eventually ended up at the C and F pub:

Bike didnt skip a beat, was about 220 mile round trip and she ran perfectly. Only thing which didnt go so well is i think i might have got done by a speed camera, if i have, it will be from doing 60 in a 50, on some road near Leek (on way home) ill nervously be checking the mail in the next couple of weeks, i already have 3 points with 1 year left to expire Rolling Eyes

Nice one, looks to be a pretty part of the country.

How did you find long distances on the bike? I've not yet had the chance to do long distances on anything but a GZ125 - 200 miles on that, I found I was looking forward to a break ten miles after i just had one.

On the way there (80ish miles to tent) i dont think i had any rest stops, except maybe 1 quick one to put earplugs in or something.
The second day, after 120 odd miles i was getting well uncomfortable, but my arse healed itself after standing up for only 5 minutes and i felt 100 times better.

We all start some where. That how I started out. Two night at a camp site in Wale's a good few year's back. Found the meet in a bike mag. With a all is welcome bit, so I went. Learnt a lot on that trip. And seen a few thing's that I have used ever since. It's someone long in the tooth who say's they have nothing more to learn from bike camping. I pick up one or two thing's every time I go traveling.

After a while if the bug bite's. You will be thinking of going further a feild. Any way I wish you well.

reservoir was the Errwood Reservoir.

My first camping trip was 1 night over near Seahouses, North Sunderland, travelling from Blackpool.

As said, we all start somewhere. Enjoyed the photos Smile

Thanks for the write-up. Simple stuff but you got out there and did it. Some up themselves owners of flash bikes couldn't cope with simple riding and camping well done. It takes balls to piss off and do your own thing.

Re-reading this thread is making me excited for the Lake District this easter, just hope the weather is good for it.
My bike looks nothing like that now, it has a covering of dirt all over it from winter haha

Easter is early this year and statistically there is more chance of snow at Easter than there is at Christmas, apparently Smile

The Lake District is gorgeous you will love it Thumbs Up My only gripe is getting stuck behind buses on tight roads, either have to be patient or go for risky over takes.

No i mean the bag itself will sway into the tyre, it can be dangerous if it got caught in the wheel. I will probably be selling the bike this year for that reason

I know what you mean but I still reckon they'll fit just fine.
Obviously I'm not you but I reckon it's worth you taking a
punt for the sake of £35 to find out. I've looked long and
hard at your bike pics and I say no way they're going to get
caught in the wheels or burn on the pipes. Just trying to help
ya out mate.

thanks but i measured the space on the bike last year, its 11 inch from pillion seat to exhaust, the bags are 12.5 inch high, also they would be too wide at 16 inches, my indicators are in the way. I will think of something though

The soft luggage wont sway into the wheel. Adjust straps to top of bags are around seat hight. I have mono shock, you have two to help prevent this. My indicators were also in the way.

Standard

https://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz43/1888pictures/01-4.jpg

Full luggage would crush them

https://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz43/1888pictures/03-1.jpg

So got brackets made for touring

https://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz43/1888pictures/03-2.jpg

When touring

https://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz43/1888pictures/New/Klep%202012/SAM_1074_zps6cb195d7.jpg

You can just see mini indicators at the top of luggage. Reason bags are set far back is the pillion peg access. I have been using soft luggage for years and never had them touch the wheel.

They are Oxford liftime luggage. They have the zip round them to expand the size. Dont think they sell them ones now as they are around 20 years old. Been 100% waterproof all this time. Worth spending the extra cash on a good set. They were £100 back then.
