So I picked up my new GSXR and after seeing another sports bike with a smaller number plate on I think it looks ok.

Think this is chavy? Or ok?

Will it just be hassle from the police if I put one on?

Thinking

Depends how small.

I always rode with 8x6" which is fine, looks about right from a distance, but looks much nicer than the standard 9x7".

I think the letter box ones are just a no no, and the 7x5" ones do look a bit small.

I've never heard anyone having trouble from the police with an 8x6", but I have heard about trouble with smaller sizes.

Messing with your number plate to much just gives the "Old Bill" a reason to pull you over and once they have they'll look at the rest of your bike.. ..| Embarassed

^^
I got fined for a plate similar to that and was reported to the DVLA, you will get pulled eventually.

The reason for the fine was down to the reg being of single row "letter box ones" as Dan says.

Why would you want one?

If it's to avoid speeding fines or ANPR, then obviously the Police will view it unfavourably. Whether or not you're going to get pulled over for it is another matter.

If it's for bling, you're a chav.

Or maybe people just like it? Not all of us want completely standard bikes. I like all of mine to look different to everybody elses.

In my opinion they improve the look of most bikes.. I think small ones are actually quite nice but I'd never go that small to keep the fuzz happy. Thumbs Up

Tailtidy's are great aswell.

Well, the OP asked for opinions. Apparently he gives a toss about what others think.

Some people like adidas tracksuits. I think they look chav.

I've used 8x6 plates for a number of years, and never had a problem, never been pulled over etc.

I have a plate an inch smaller in height and width. It definitely looks better, but still kind of looks standard. I would go two inch smaller, but probably wouldn't go further than that.

A bit smaller is ok. Anything less imho is just shouting 'please arsey copper pull me over, measure my numberplate, look at the can, my visor then go over the bike. If you are a real arse look for the tax disc' Thumbs Down

Why does one by a shiny Sportsbike?

Bling? Very Happy

The regulation dimension is a bit large and un-asthetically pleasing to the eye in contrast to the more diminutive 'show plate' dimension.

I use bog std. as most police don't pull bikers for nothing. I know three times we've been pulled by traffic and two idiots got producers for non-legal cans. We got pulled because one arsehole had a 'handwritting style' letterbox plate. (Which we'd ALL told the cnut he'd be pulled for).
The police don't mind chavvy cans as much as taking the piss with stupid plates.

Why draw the wrong sort of attention?

And too unique is always going to be 'The Chav' anyway. Razz

I put a 7x5 on mine, looks much tidier in my opinion, but I've never had any dealings with the police as regards my bike so not sure what they'd make of it. Have passed plenty of police vehicles without incidence.
