I thought I would share this with fellow BCF members.

I use to be a personal trainer / nutritionist before I started working as a teacher (teaching exercise and physiology).

As its Janurary I thought loads of people will be on this so called "health kick" but seems as tho they all have an excuse as to why it's too difficult. When I said its yourself that creating the boundaries to my mates they respond with well you try being this size and loosing weight, see how easy it is then........... Ok

So my challenge is to put on as much weight as possible in 3 months, document my food, how I feel, measurements etc. and then loose it all again!! Documenting how I have done it and if it's as easy as I think to get out of this mental state.

So follow me and we will have some fun......

freshly gained weight is not very hard to lose. 3 months won't really be enough to store anything stubborn, nor to enter the mindset and habits of a fat person.

you are right though, the only thing stopping anyone losing weight is their own laziness.

i've lost over 25 kgs in the past 14 months and i've lost all patience with people who make excuses. i've heard it all even stupid shit like "i've got athsma so i have higher dietary requirements, that's why i'm fat". if their athsma was using the extra calories, they wouldn't have stored it! but of course, you tell people this and youre the bad guy and/or just plain wrong.

i honestly wouldn't bother unless youre going to raise some cash for charity. you won't alter anyone's mindset or effect change in your friends. they don't want to believe you and will only realise when they hit rock bottom that it's them that need to change

It's not really to change anyone's mind set. It's more to try and go through the un motivated stage so I can use it in my teachings.

Now when you say it's easier to get rid of fresh fat that isn't true. Water retention yes but fat? No, will have the same make-up of year long fat. I may not change my metabolism but as I said fresh fat is not "easier" to loose.

My main enthusis is body fat not weight. It's true that weight may be easier to loose but as said this includes water retention and muscle stored glycogen (carb loading etc.) so no it won't be easier to loose.

Hmmm?? Pandora`s box/ whole world of shit/ slippery slope are things that come to mind.

It`s easy to be a fat bastard (I know), are you absolutely certain you want to go down this road and can get it all off again?

In my 20`s & 30`s and even into my 40`s I was fitter than the average male and suprisingly strong for my body shape/size (tall and slim not skinny).
Into my late forties I put on weight and have never been able to lose it and I really do try to be moderate in what i eat.
I will admit that I could do with being a bit more active, but I do try to stay active.

Wasn't there a documentary on, along the similar line to this now so long ago, a lad at work was on about it.

Basically fitness freak turns into a fat bastard, then tries to loose it all again in 12 months, to prove its easy

Turned out its not and its quite easy to get settled it to the lazy fat bastard lifestlye

Yep that's right.

I genuinely want to find the state where you have no desire to loose weight. Whether I will or not is another story.

I don't Know what will happen. But hey ho. Will soon find out

As an ex-fitness freak turned fat bastard, I can confirm that it's decidedly easy to fall into the lazy fat bastard lifestyle.

Thumbs Up

This documentary was on some Home & health channel the other night on SKY-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nTTPNDCU43w

he struggled once he got fat at 6 months as he had gotten used to the "eat what you want when you want" lifestyle, but he turned it around and got back to his old self again by the end of the year.

Because they don't reach the age where the risk is greatest?

I've seen something like this done before. He put up daily/weekly challenges for epic calorie meals. One that sticks to mind is easting an entire costco sized jar of peanut butter in one sitting

Wow is this some new fangled kind of Stanislaskian masochistic approach to pedagogy or what??

It's all a lottery, Scorps, and is why I feel guilty sprawled on the sofa, reading BCF as my life ticks away. Just because it's snowing out.

The point you are missing is people may think and feel over weight and unfit but to do anything effective about it is not easy.
You putting on weight to lose it again only works for YOU.
You cannot use the info gained in this for anyone else but YOU. Really.

To lose weight and be fit is all to do with the mind. As is any 'habit' or learned behaviour.

Don't be a cunt arse and show off to people how 'You' could lose weight. It will not do anything. It will certainly not motivate anyone.

Some folk are fat and unfit. They need help to change their mind and overall outlook on personal health. Not feckin diets of faddy foods.
That is a lot of pish. Exponentially proven to be pish too.

Encouragement and results benefit lifestyle change more that example.

Im overweight, more muscle than I think is ladylike too but even though i do an awful lot of walking in my job and can swim for hours at a stretch im never going to be slender. My paternal side are stocky and my maternal side are teeny. I got my dads side but his side seem to live longer.
I dont fry anything or drink to excess or pig out, love healthy food like salads and white meat, chocolate being my only real sin but not huge amounts but I smoke.

Scorps. I appreciate what you say and certainly body shapes are certainly passed down through families when in normal living mode. However if you did intensive cardio exercise your body would naturally lean itself out. But it doesn't sound like you have an issue with your body so fair dos.

OP. You sound fairly arrogant and I feel you may come unstuck. Also 3 months is not a representative amount of time to reflect your average fatty. You will retain a decent base level of fitness and strength and motivation. Try 12 months +.

Losing weight is an individual discovery IMO there is no one size fits all method. (Excuse pun). I can lose weight rapidly, but it took a while to work out what worked well.

JonB dont get me wrong, Id love to be a size 10 and im not as fit as I would like to be, I just have no idea how to kick start my metabolism back into something resembling anything other than sloth mode after two major life threatening illness and medications. Im not happy with the way I am but get fed up with people who make out it is just down to doing things the right way. ive tried all of those. and they havent worked yet.

I think what you're doing is quite a cool idea man Thumbs Up
Personally, training pretty hard up to 5 times a week for over 2 years now and still carrying a bit of weight I can safely say that there are different ways for different people to train; finding the right one for you is paramount.

I do think it's a huge mental battle most of the time - It almost becomes a lifestyle choice.

I'd love to watch the "Fat and back" documentary - Anyone know where I can find it? Did look on Sky Guide for it on the channel mentioned above but didnt seen anything?
