Knob.

I had the same happen to me, except he didn't bother stopping. He just drove away with my bike attached to the front of his car whilst I lay in a coma.

I wish cancer on the cunt.

I wasn't injured, but a hit and run driver left me pinned under my bike on a roundabout, he stopped, I could see him looking at me in my mirror and then he drove off.

I almost got knocked off by some cunt undercutting me on a roundabout the other day too. Pulled me over and yelled at me but I couldn't hear him because my ipod was blaring into my ears so I just stared at him. Something about me going slowly and stopping or something Confused

This kind of thing makes me quite afraid. I'm not confident in gear's ability to protect against back injury (not just my gear but gear in general).

There really is some scum in the world.... he needs a good kick in the bollocks

Something I noticed in that article though.

I hope somebody finds the driver and cuts his balls off... that's just crazy. How did he had the audacity to insult and leave someone injured, especially when it was his own fault? Evil or Very Mad

Although:
Quote:
Recounting his ordeal, he said: 'All I remember is a black people-carrier clipping the back of my bike - he kept speeding up behind me before hitting me and I went flying into the air.

A prime example of why to pull over and let someone past if they're being a complete cock behind you.

Yes, I thought that too. Hopefully someone with the right training sees it and can answer for us.

I drive through there every morning and can honestly say I'm not surprised. Chesterfield drivers are so backward that the driver in question was probably still in wonder that he wasn't driving a horse and cart. That, and he was probably pointing at those amazing things called aeroplanes.

Is it the right thing to do to put crash victims in the recovery position when they are conscious?

I know I fucking wouldn't!

Says in the report that "first aider saved him from being paralysed" but it later comes out that his back was broken in 3 places...

If it were me laying there I'd probably want leaving where I was until proper help arrived (unless unconscious/choking on vomit/blood whatever)

Confused

Correct.

Unless a persons life is threatened by some other factor, someone with a suspected back injury should not be moved an inch.

Its amazing how many people don't realise this. After my crash, I had three blokes trying to help me up, even though I had severe back pain. It was only under my insistance that they let me be.

Wish the lad a speedy recovery and the sick cut of a driver gets a good dose of justice, one way or another.

I was about to make the same points, but thought I better check the thread first. Laughing

What it should have said:

"A passer-by, with all the best intentions, moved the victim around a fair bit but fortunately didn't sever his spinal-cord."

Easy solutions. ipod for boring motorways. In towns and cities you want all senses working...well I do.

As for gear...Airbags in jackets are available, as are back and chest protection. Whatever makes you feel confident. I'm quite confident in my abilities to spot danger, and prefer to wear clothing that suits the weather. That said, all my bike gear has some sort of protection in it including my jeans.

As others have said you should never move a crash victim unless you absolutely have to.

Unfortunately, the Daily Mail (and other media), don't let these basic facts to get in the way of a good story. Well done to the passer-by for calling an ambulance etc, but was he really put in a recovery position? I doubt it.

I, well we, should complain as it's this sort of thing which gives out very damaging information, making people think this is the right thing to do when it could be possibly the worst.

Makes me wonder... "serves you right", was he riding like a dick or something?

Quote:

...or was the rider braking and speeding up and braking?

Not enough info really, but still nobody should walk over and laugh, and not help. What a tosser...

Exact same thing happened to me, women carried on driving after she knocked me off and I had to run after her with a broken arm to stop the car. She then shouted and screamed at me.

Later turned out she had whiplash. Utter cunt.

From my first aid training : we were told that if the person is consious and responsive and breathing = unless there is a immediate danger, dont move them .
Bodycheck for unusual bits & fluids.
That said they may be uncomftable lying in an awkward position, so what do you do in that situation?
It`s very scary coming across that type of situation, cos you`re not a doctor and dont know the history of what happened and you`re dammed if you do something and you`re dammed if you dont anything.

I was told ABC and 999.

ABC = airways, breathing, circulation.

I'm off to a 'Biker Down' session on Thursday, I'm looking forward to getting some more knowledge on the whole first aid thing.
