hi, my zx6r f3 97 aint getting any fuel!
Iv replaced the fuel pump relay with a 2nd hand on that came off a running bike,
the fuel filter aint blocked,
checked with cap open,
any ideas what else i can check before replacing the pump as that is the dearest part.

the fuel pump i have had off and checked with a direct feed, now it seems to do something but not much but i dont realy know what to expect from it so i dont know if it is right or not.
basically il try to explain what it does, if you can imagine something going up and down inside it (in like a pumping action) when connected to the live feed it will go up (inside) and then nothing until to disconnect it then it will go back down.
should i expect more from it than that?

any ideas will be greatly appreciated as its sat outside under cover in this weather with out being turned over which cant be good for it Sad

I have fuel pumps on both my R1 and Exup.Inside of the pump on my Exup there is a set of points that can arc or become contaminated. They have been known to go this way and sometimes a clean with some emery cloth has been sufficient to make the pump work more effectively.

I am not suggesting that this might be the problem on your bike.It is just something else to look at.

When you drain the fuel from the pump and then reconnect it you should hear it clicking while it fills up with fuel. This will only happen when you turn the ignition on. It should start clicking about 4 times a second and then gradually slow down until the fuel is fully primed into the pipes and carbs. Actually, I think you might have to crank the engine to start the pump clicking. Try with just the ignition on first and then crank it if the pump doesn't click.

Also, as Fizzer says above, try cleaning those points if it doesn't click at all.

Sounds like you need one of these,.

Its a common problem on Kawas.
Take out the existing one and have a look. It will probably be pitted to buggery and generally worn.

not had chance to whip it off again tonight but will do tomorrow, i hope it is something as simple as that as i dont want to be buying a new pump as they arnt the cheapest.

luckily when it died on me i got about 200 yards from my house but pushing it back with all my gear on was not too easy, you dont seem to realise just how eavy they are until you have to push them lol

I fitted a used pump to a G model not so long ago. That one cost around £30 off ebay. You can get what appear to be pattern pumps for about £75 too.

Thanks for your advice people, turns out it was the contacts on the fuel pump.

Tried cleaning but made no difference so just stuck a new one on.

Well it now runs but it runs like crap. seems like atleast 1 plug is misfiring.
Im hoping its simply because how long it has been sat.
It gives off some lovley loud bangs followed by flames caused by the unburnt fuel but like always, asoon as i go to have a look at it the soddin rain starts!
