DVI connectors... completely confused

Having trouble finding the right adapters.

Setup:-

Card: DVI-D Dual | DVI-I Dual | HDMI | Display Port

Samsung Monitor: DVI-D Single | HDMI
Acer Monitor: DVI-D Dual | HDMI
Projector: HDMI | HDMI

The Acer needs to be DVI-D Dual connected, as it's 144hz. ( or HDMI if it supports it? )
The Samsung is only 60hz but has DVI-D Single and my card will only have the DVI-I Dual input as the Acer is in the other.
Projector has to be HDMI as there's no others for it to go in.

Can I use the diplay port to HDMI for the projector and use HDMI to HDMI for the monitor? As the only other way of doing it would be for some kind of DVI-D single to DVI-I Dual adapter, as they're completely different connections?

I could do it like this:-

Acer HDMI to HDMI ( Will it be 144hz? I think they are but not sure )
Projector HDMI to Display port (adapter)
Samsung DVI-D single to DVI-D dual ( will the connector even work? )

Acer: DVI-D dual to DVI-D dual so you get the full resolution.
Samsung: DVI-D single to DVI-I dual with a DVI-D single cable (DVI-I carries analogue as well as digital; you just need the digital bit).
Projector: HDMI to HDMI.

DVI cables are so wonderful.

DVI single cables have got a resolution maximum limit of 1920x1200 so they they are not the 100% best.

Display port is good, I believe for that you could use an adapter to take it to fit a dvi dual cable.

The 6990 had 1 DVI-D and 5 mini HDMI... was so much easier connecting displays.

Display Port isn't compatible with DVI without using adapters.

DVI-I carries analogue and digital signals
DVI-D is digital only
DVI-A is analog only

Single link has a max resolution of 1920x1080 or 1600x1200
Dual link goes up to about 2560x1600

A dual link port will support single link monitors.

HDMI is, basically, DVI-D Single.

So all you need to do is plug your monitors into the either of the DVI ports using suitable cables, and go HDMI to HDMI for your projector.

Edit: Was typing that as you posted. The extra pins on the DVI-I are for analogue monitors; you don't need to worry about them, and a DVI-D plug should go in a DVI-I socket without problems.

My PS3 setup used to be:

HDMI -> DVI-D (single) -> HDFury (DVI-D double) -> VGA

Worked a treat despite plugging a single in to a double socket. The HDFury was simply there to strip the HDCP from the HDMI.

Anyway, it seems to be from an initial point of view that you could simply use DVI -> HDMI for all of your devices?

Are there any DVI connections that carry audio aswell?

curious because my surround sound is connected up in a gay way with the ps3 because apparently DVI doesn't do the audio.

my ps3 is hooked up to my hitatchi monitor and is HDMI in the ps3 and DVI to the monitor, which has no HDMI slot

If it's the monitor that has DVI as an input then no.
Best solution would be use optical out of the ps3 into the surround sound (i think)
