Going to look at an 05 SV1000 SZ tomorrow, just wondered if any of you SV riders had any specific areas i should be checking over...?

Am absolutely fine with the normal stuff, C&S, rubber, Gearbox, engine noises, rust etc, but any specific SV problems i should be extra wary of?

cheers

Maybe check out sv650.org, they're a good bunch (the forums have a lot of info) and a fair few have SV1000s.

Aha i guess ill have to wait til next year to find out about the TL when i can insure the fucker! Laughing

Bike looks real nice from pics, going to look and test ride tomorrow, she's an 05/06 SV1000SZ, Ltd etd, ie 5bhp more, fully faired and in the 05 GSXR colours ( makes no odds to me as fairings will be pulled off, and Naked top yoke fitted for dirty bars)

I had a naked sv1000n with a few goodies like a cowl an a TRE fitted. I would generally look for knackered head races, worn consumables and general corrosion. Theres a green plug at the front of the loom that can burn out on some bikes and 03 models had a reputation for noisy cranks. A good bike by all accounts but the tank range annoyed me.

a friend and ex workmate called mad mick bought one new when he had his redundancy back in 2004, they'd just announced they were dropping the unfaired 1000cc model and were selling them off for £4000 new and as he was looking for a bike so I suggested he buy one, its now done nearly 30k in the hands of one of the most hamfisted people I know, it's had it's neck wrung from day one, made to wheelie at whim and been used for daily commuting and more hairy biker rallies than I can remember, plus he drag races a 450hp hayabusa, he blew up his Z1300 twice when new and had a Z650 that had a rod come through the cases with the piston still attached, I don't let him ride anything of mine, but the SV has never let him down
