how to access a computer on same network ?

How do I go about getting access to the misses laptop via my computer ?

She's on wireless with win 7 and ny comps running xp with Ethernet cable .
I just want to able to send movies over and get my cv from hers etc

actually windows 7 is a c**t to network
you can share media folders easy but setting up say a share drive / or folder is a PITA
I tried for ages to set up a share folder on the main PC that all other computer in the house could log into
but it just wouldn't configure so I gave up

Add everyone to share under permissions does the trick normally, then take share off after - you do know you need to set both pcs to same workgroup name -

Windows 7 tried to make networking easier for idiots. For idiots that want to share common stuff like media, yeah, it works better and easier than before. However, like you said when you want to share network drives and crap it sucks big time.
I wrote a post-fresh install script that disabled homegroup listener and provider and sets up networking the old fashioned XP way and enables RDP etc etc.

Really? I have 10 HDDs being shared over a network with 2 PCs, 3 laptops, several phones and tablets and no problems.

All running Windows 7 though, none are XP to Win7 etc.

I'm sharing several folders across my network to other win7 machines, a couple of android devices and a NFS client......

The only headache was the NFS.

Every device in my gaff is also sharing drives happily, xp, 7 and 8 and even the android kit

win 7 to win 7 is easy

Better off using FTP clients in my experience, filezilla, D-LAN
But then I do fucking hate homegroup and all that bollocks

I can't see why everyone has issues with XP > 7

Share the drive, remove it from those god forsaken homegroups, allow file sharing and make sure the machine has a password.

Go to other machine, map a drive to the IP\folder name.

Hasn't failed me yet.
