First up, sorry if this is not in the correct sub forum

After a nasty wee spill I want to invest in some protective urban riding gear.
I want to get some boots and a pair of Kevlar jeans with a minimum of knee armour.
I live up in Glasgow so the choice is not great in the bricks and mortar stores up here so don’t have much choice but to order online.

Boots wise I want a pair of boots that don’t look like special forces in space boots.
So I’m thinking Stylemartin Legends or the Spitfire boots. Has anyone tried these? If so are the sizes true or are they made large/small?

On the jeans front I don’t want to spend more than £120 so esquad is out the question.

The cheapest “brand” looks like Australian bikers gear.
Has any one tried these? If so what do you think and how are they sized?

Is Velcro on armour ok or are pockets better?

Thanks in advance

J & S in Hamilton has a pretty good selection. Tried there?

Nothing but praise for my red route kevlar jeans, come with removable knee armour, kevlar stitched in the vital areas, very thick denim aswell.

Picked them up for £50 at the NEC Bike show last year, think they retail for £100? not sure.

I had a look at thier boots.
the few pairs they had that I liked where too small or too narrow. Prices were keen though.
the jeans were realy baggy.
SF
how was the sizing of the red rout?

I wear the jeans listed in this thread:https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=256339
As for boots, I wear a pair of Magnum boots; they're properly waterproof and warm.

Hood jeans are pretty decent, lots of abrasion proof fabric throughout the insides, not just knees and arse cheeks. Knee armour isn't very comfortable though and the hip armour would give you a ghetto booty.

Customer service is decent too.

As for boots, I am about 2 months into a pair of alpinestars web goretex, paid £112. I'm not big on army boots etc on the bike so went for dedicated bike boots. So far, they have been ace.

Mine fit fine, a little length and width at the bottom is helpful so you can get them over your boots.

Also don't forget the knee armour may be under your knee when standing but when your sitting down or in a riding position they will end up being directly over your knees.

I've a few sets of Kevlar jeans and the BERIK ones are my favourite. Although they came with a stupid pop button which I had replaced at a tailors for a jean one for £12. They had built in knee armour.

I have a pair of their Kevlar cargo pants.

TBH I am not very impressed. Crying or Very sad Knee armour is far from where it should be no matter how much I try and position it and the sizing is small. e.g. I can normally float into any pair of pants with a 36" waist with a bit to spare. - 36" in these are a tight squeeze even without the hip armour in. I really should have sent them back and got a 38" pair.

+1 for Hood Jeans, awesome quality and comfy as! Really well made with Kevlar all over, can fit some slim armour in the knees and hips too, think they're around the £100 mark.

www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk have a good selection of boots and underneath they usually have good advice on whether boots fit true and need a size up, fairly good prices too!
