the look of the rear tyre after 115km of track work was absolutely awful it is looking melted from edge to edge but still has quite a bit of meat on the edges, is it okay for me to do another trackday on the same rear tyre? as I don't want to buy a new one to only go out and destroy it again next month I have found that the small bits of melted rubber come off if I just do some light corner work around roundabouts and sharp bends making the tyre look a little more healthy Very Happy

You may find that it has lost a little bit of grip...but the probability is you weren't at the limits of grip anyway.

Everytime you get the tyre hot, then it cools down, the structure of the tyre changes slightly. Howver this changes road tyres a lot less that track tyres. I know bendy's got quite a few trackdays and thousands of road miles out of one set of 010s.

Yup, I got five trackdays out of my last set of tyres, plus all the road miles inbetween.

It'd look pretty mullered after the trackday, but in the time inbetween it would 'heal' as all the bobbles would wear off and it would go back to looking fairly normal.

You'll know when it's time to get rid - mine just stopped feeling grippy around the edges one day, presumably because it had been cooked so many times that the compound had just lost its stickyness.

Did you drop your tyre pressure for the track?

Should be ok as long as there are no splits and you are not down to the wear indicators.

Enjoy riding through winter with tyres mullered to the edges while 90% of other bikes on the road have cm wide sissy bands Very Happy

Yeah I dropped the pressures by 2 psi in both the front and rear tyres but the track was not VERY hot as expected, but by the 12th of December the track will be quite hot expected ambient temperatures will be 35 degrees celcius does that mean that the tyres need less warm up time? I am really looking forward racing around a really hot track! Very Happy here is a general layout of the track!

Hot track doesnt mean hot tyres!! Id say just get a few sighting/warm up laps in, then go for it!!

Do remember that your tyres can only give so much grip, if you keep heating them up after that point it may well make them worse.

Thus for race tyres you get different versions to be used in different conditions so that they don't die too quickly.

When I did a track day at Donington it was roasting hot, and very quiet on the track (no-where near fully booked) so we got 25 mins on the track at a time. There were big chunks of the back tyre coming off which panicked me a bit at the time, but after a couple of days normal road riding it seemed to tidy itself up again.

The small melted bits I find are just from the side of the track when you come off or get on to the the track. They just peel off. Im not suprised they stick so well coz i nearly burned my hand at a hot race day at Oulton Park just feeling how hot the tyres were after a race.
